what is this ferrule material? It's a joss cue I'm thinking of buying, is it original?

I may be wrong, But I think that is ivorine 3 Its the same thing McDermott uses.

Why does it look checkered?

Joss has been using Aegis since the early 1990's as standard Ferrule stock, if that is when the cue was made, and it has never been changed thats what it is without a doubt. The material if thermostatic woven fiber which actually qualifies it as Phenolic. It is very very hard, I have never seen a Aegis ferrule break form use.

Those are the fibers that are bonded together, if done correctly most of it will polish out. However, sometimes you may still see marks or traces from the fibers, and sometimes you may not. It mainly depends upon who made the Aegis rod that the ferrule material was made from, sometimes bad batches are released.

Don't know about the weight, however, I doubt that any other Ferrule material is harder than Aegis, except ferrules that people make from cue balls.

i spoke with dan not long ago they are not using aegis anymore thats right from the horses mouth. they have come up with a new material which we will not discuss .

IM NOT SURE HE SAID THE QUALITY WAS GETTING POOR DIRT SPECS IN THE MATERIAL
