OK .. I'm pestering Dan way too much, so I'll ask here.

1. What do the numbers on the shafts mean? (date?, wood lot number?)

2. Has Joss ever made an implex joint cue? (other than some custom thing)

Shaft numbers? I know I saw that somewhere but I don't remember.

Implex? Well, a lot of that people call Implex is not Implex, which is a specific material. I believe they have, but it may not have been Inplex strictly speaking. Whether or not there was a "model run" I don't remember at the moment. But I have seen Joss cue with what many consider a McDermott type joint...wood to wood, Implex collar.

Ya know (Doc) .. I actually considered posting this to your PM/Inbox because you are pretty much the "go to" guy when it comes to Joss.

I will probably ask Dan ... he's been so damned great as far as feedback. I told him he could add another $500 ... and in the end - he said that Stephen (his son) had some great ideas to "jazz" up the one he's making me.

Not sure if I said it on here ... but I did buy the custom one too that he's using as a model. OMG ... I just love it. I've run 3 racks of 8-ball in the last 3 weeks .. and I am NOT even good enough to do that ... lol.

(I was gonna post a link - but it's not on his custom page anymore) I'll take a pic of mine tomorrow.

Hi Ched
Joss has offered 3/8x10, Radial, and Uni loc quick release besides thier standard 5/16x14 on the Joss labeled cues.

I just acquired a new Joss cue.....My shaft has 1701 on it....That means the shaft was made Jan of 2017.....My other shaft has 1604 which is April 2016...These numbers are the dates shaft was made.....Just read first 2 numbers as year and last 2 as month..

1701 is also the Registry Number for the Starship Enterprise.

ACTUALLY, the date posting was 1/2 right,

On joss shafts made in the past about 6 years. They post the YEAR--the shaft was made and the Quarter of the Month the shaft was made.

So, a shaft that says 1503, would have been made in 2015 and in the 3rd Quarter of the year. So, like July, August or September.

Hope this helps,

In regards to Implex Material, If you Custom order a cue from Dan or Stephen, I believe you can get what you pay for. For the Production Cues since 1980, I would say, I have not seen any. I have seen, Stainless, Phenolic.

Hope this helps,

All great thoughts about the number on my shafts .... but wrong.
The number on the shafts is an internal number to tell me when and who I bought the wood from.
Nothing to do with when the shaft was made etc.
I can refer to the number and see where I got it from. If It was a great shipment of shaft wood I know where.
If a bad shipment I know where it came from.
Just a number for me to keep my suppliers honest.
