JOSS WEST Cue Value

I get slammed everytime I try to help. But I am a huge JW fan, and I really like his cues.

I think it is a $1500 cue. For those who offer it is worth more, have them buy it. I get tired of people saying cues are worth at least $3K and wouldn't pay $2K if it was offered.

I wish you the best of rolls,

Ken

Hey Ken I thank you for you time. I do have to disagree a little bit because I just emailed Bill Stroud about two weeks ago about building a cue. He said for a Hoppe style cue, 4 points, 4 veneers, 2 shafts, and no inlay work $2K.
So, with that in mind, here you have 8 points, 4 high w/4 veeners, 4 low w/ Ivory diamonds, 8 ivory diamond windows, Ivory Joint, Ivory Butt cap, it's got to be well over $2K

Well if you consider the market right now, I would tend to agree with Ken on this one. I've seen a very high end Josswest (newer one) probably 5K worth from Bill that when for half the price. On a second note, I also seen JW that when for the Fair Market price like that last one that sold on ebay for $3500.00. So, I think the market for JW along with a hose of big names that are just going cheap because no one can afford them and they would only be sold it the deal was a steal!! SW seem to be the only cue along with a selected few that's holding their resell value right now. I think the bubble price tag on some of the better known custom cues are now bursted so it really come down to buyers to determine their worth. I think seller just need to hang strong because if someone let it go for a steal....it's going to set precedent and a ripple effect will take place in de-valuing a lot of the cues in the market. Just as we have a few on AZ where prices are jacked up high and sold which set a ripple effect for other sellers to price it high. Market demand and supply playing out I guess.

For 1500, I would buy this JW and hold it until a buyer is willing pay the fair market value of 2K plus for the cue. I would suggest just hanging on to the cue until the market get better.

It's a buyer's market right now for sure!!

Best of luck with the sales.

Regards,
Duc.

Josswest...

That is a very nice looking JW. I think the price to have a stick built or replaced may not always be the same as the price you can sell the stick for, just like a used car.

I'm a little perplexed here....you've solicited for opinions for the value of your cue here and now you're disagreeing with the opinions ??

On the pricing method from what Bill quoted you, it's really like comparing apples and oranges. Try not to misconstrue 'actual' or 'street value' with 'replacement value'....they are often two entirely different animals, especially in a very weak market like we're seeing for most cues. Your cue was probably $3500-3800 when the market for JWs was at its peak. I think I even remember seeing this very one in one of of John Wright's flyers, but now it has most certainly lost some value in today's market.

Really nice cue, always love to see pink ivory used.

I just got the cue in my hands today and it looks even better in person then the photos. ;)
I do appreciate everyone input, (oh by the way I made a mistake in the description this cue has 12 Ivory windows with pink ivory not 8) IMHO I could never seen this cue even in a soft market selling for less then $2K, way to much inlay work from a top tier cue maker.

List it on ebay, start at $100, with no reserve. When it sells then the REAL value of the cue will be obvious.

If a bet could be made, with you at $2.5K and the selling price. I would be willing to pay anything over $2.5K and you pay the price under.....obviously there are too many ways to "influence" but I think it would be an entertaining exercise.

My point is I was just at DCC and bought a cue that was at booths for $3500-$3700 a couple years ago (Joe's, Cue Addicts, etc). (Not one like it, but the EXACT cue). I paid $2350 for it, in the same "new" condition.

The cue was a James White cue, and while I love Josswest cues, White cues are hotter sellers.

I honestly wish you the best of rolls.....

Ken
