This cue is listed as a Josswest and has the J and sideways W however it just doesnt seem right. Never seen a JW with an 18 pin for one and the stitch ring justs dont seem right for the sideways W era. any opinions

I believe Greg (Howardthedick here on AZ ) is Hillibilliards. He's an upstanding
member here, and he knows what he's talking about. Whatever he posts, is
legit, and unless he actually made a mistake, is good info. You should send
him a PM if you're interested in the cue.

That being said, I have heard of the really early Bill Stroud cues to have
a 5/16-18 pin. Hope this helps.

18 Thread

Yep, that is my cue. I've had more Josswests over the years than I would even care to remember and I believe that about 90% of them were 18 thread. As a matter of fact, I'd say that the ones with the sideways W were All 18 Threads. But I'm not totally sure about that. Hope this helps clear things up.

Pin Size

Hey Guys, I found out something interesting about JW pins. I went right to the source and PM'd Bill Stroud and here's what he said about the 18 thread. "
When I first started JW in Aspen I made a few cues with the 5/16-18 pin".
That is copied and pasted. So, I was wrong about the pins all being 18 thread, but this kind of clears things up. So this Josswest must really be an oldie.
Thanks,
Greg

Bill would use the pin you preferred if you ordered from him , In 1974 I ordered a 4 point 4 veneer with 5/16x 14 pin with SS joint and Bushka style rings, and I had another that I ordered in 78 with a 3/8x10 pin with the flat faced Ivory joint and veneered stitch rings that I had stolen back in 98 . I seen the cue that is FS on E-Bay and it looks correct to me . GLWS It's a fine looking Old School JW .

Who made the new shaft? How old is it? How heavy are the shafts?
