JP Hoarders - Cool, or Not Cool

I appreciate getting them with a cue, but it also don't think I've ever beat anyone up over the price so much that they'd withhold joint protectors out of spite.

Generic JPs I can see holding onto for use with another cue. Custom matching JPs should go with the cue they were matched to, and if they're exotic enough in design or material I think it's fair to ask a little more on the cue sale price.

I'm personally going to start flipping cues specifically to cull enough custom JPs to swap out all the drawer pulls in my kitchen.

You cannot withhold j/p's out of spite.
You can however withhold j/p's if they aren't a matching set, but then you end up hoarding a bunch of oddball j/p's.
This is a great thread, j/p's are one of my favorite things to talk about.
I've been selling off my cue collection and buying up j/p's.
JB is making me a custom case just for my j/p collection><

If I'm including j/p's with a cue I show them in the pics.
Generic j/p's are often included, or thrown in during a negotiation, and some j/p's are just too ugly to put in a box.
Matching j/p's should always be including with the cue, and cues with ivory joints should have j/p's as well, matching or not.
It is bad Karma to hang on to a matching set of j/p's when you sell the cue.

okay, i guess i am a " semi-hoarder". i have several sets that i had made that i will never sell. they fit on some cues i own, but i also have other sets that stay with the cue.

but i try to obtain matching jp's for all of my cues that don't come with them. between jim baxter and alton here on az we have a great resource for jp's. if i have a cue with jp's made specifically for that cue i will offer them with the cue but add the price to the price of the cue.

If you were selling a cue with puppies and cars inlays, it would be criminal not to include those joint protectors.

Classic J/P humor, but it does make me wonder...
Maybe they were made for one of those special edition McDermotts, which would make
the matching cues virtually impossible to track down

Throw them into the deal if you want to, keep them if you want to keep them. Hell, throw them in a lake or put them down the garbage disposal if that's what you want to do. They belong to you, not to a pool cue.

I thought sticking them in the collet closer on my repair lathe was bad, but that is some serious joint protector abuse><

There is a lot of drama on this thread.
Joint protector abuse, joint protector hoarding, j/p scams, j/p humor, and serious j/p collectors like myself.
There should be a j/p channel on cable television, or at least their own show on A&E or The History Channel.

Having bought and sold quite a few cues over the years I have seen JP hoarding happen and it really bothers me in certain instances.

First, let me clarify what it is I'm talking about.

Joint protectors that come with a cue. I *always* pass them on with the cues I sell, even if they're plain black delrin ones.

Recently, I was lucky to get back a high end cue that when I sold it just 6 months prior, it had a gorgeous 3 piece set of custom matched jpoint protectors. The guy I bought the cue from said they never came with the cue when he got it and a little detective work by me uncovered who 'held onto' them when he sold the cue. He is now looking to sell them for hundreds of dollars. Did I mention these were custom made for this exact cue? wtf!

I see it aometimes where a guy will sell a cue then 2 weeks later, the matching jp's go up for sale.

To me there is something wrong with this.

Obviously, guys are always looking to squeeze the last twenty bucks out of what they have.

Times are tough, I suppose.

Maybe these guys don't think adding the jp's to the cue deal nets them as much as selling them seperartely.

Am I all wet in how I'm thinking about this?

What do you guys think?

best,
brian kc

I believe the JPs should be offered as an additional purchase option, anywhos,

Those are cute.

I would only include jp's if they were specifically made for a cue and they were shown in the sale pictures.

I do have quite a few plastics ones though.

Banks, I want one of those Tee shirts. Specially when I have Polar Bears wandering into the back yard in the Winter.

If a cue has custom J/Ps that were made specifically for that cue, they should be sold with the cue as it moves along. They are part of that custom build, either during or as an added part later. Most Sellers are going to try and break even at the very least or make a bit of profit on the sale, so it won't hurt them to include this type along with the cue.

If they are a set of custom, yet somewhat generic in nature, can be used on other cues that the seller has, then it is up to them to include them in a sale.

Could offer them as part of the sale for a bit more. Buyers option.

If they are just Black Delrin J/Ps, who cares as they are cheap enuff to purchase.
