There are two kids from my son's junior league from The Billiards Cafe in Ayer MA going to Worlds after finishing second at Jr Nationals this year in the boys and girls 14 and under class. Sam and Michelle, I hope the US juniors can put a dent in the domination the Asian countries have had lately.

Was hoping for my son go get there this year as it was his last year in the 14 bracket and the next step up is a lot tougher to win. He got a tough draw though at Nationals and fell short in the 3rd round after being up 3-0 in a race to 7 against the kid that eventually won the whole thing. He beat both Sam and Michelle in last year's MA state championship and lost to Michelle this year coming in second.

Michelle was taking lessons from Karen Korr and plays a lot on her home table, she really has dedication to getting better at the game. Sam's dad drives him 3 hours from NJ to play in the league almost every week since there is no Jr league in his area.

Over Labor Day weekend I met Hector and Manny Ramirez, in Kansas City. Really nice people. Manny is fundraising to get to the Jr. World tournament in China in November. :thumbup:

That's one advantage Michelle has, her family is from China so it's going home for them.

Hope the BEF and other US based companies help with sending the kids there. It's a shame that the winners don't get a free trip.

They can't.

Juniors from the USA are juniors. "Juniors" from Asia are already pro level monsters who can compete against the worlds best.

Wu won the world 9-ball championships at 16 years old, against guys like Efren, Busty, Ralf, Alcano, Orcullo, ect... He got beat in the World Juniors a year before against another monster from Taiwan in the finals, in a year where they both absolutely crushed players like Albin Oschan, Jason Klatt, and John Morra.

Taiwanese players peak insanely early, in their mid teens those kids shoot better then any American out there but for SVB. Look at what the younger Ko did in the CSI event... He is not that special, there are a lot of players like him at that age produced in Taiwan, he was two years older then when Wu started dominating pro pool.

Junior players from America and Europe are still progressing and growing and while they show potential they do not play world class at the level of the worlds absolute best. The kids from Taiwan at that age, they actually already play "THAT GOOD".
