A quick update with analysis…

Good match so far… Table plays pretty tough so both players have hung some balls that look pretty makable from the camera view (but probably much tougher when you are actually at the table).

Both players are breaking well and neither are getting good roles on the first shot, both have had great layouts except for the lead shot and been forced to push.

Oscar has missed (not the tough hangups) a couple of balls and has missed several safeties (which is probably the most obvious difference in the score of the match). When Justin has played safe it was lock up and Oscar has let several safety attempts get away from him allowing Justin a shot.

I'm hoping that the players don't get table shy and start playing safe on lots of balls they would normally shoot at if the conditions were a little softer.

Just a couple quick thoughts!

I think the obsession with tight pockets is getting out of hand.

4.25" is plenty tight enough. A long match like this, even 4.5" is ok, where the BNR is a little over 15%. I think Shane's BNR rate on 4.5" pocket is a little better than 20%.

1 BNR out of 30 is silly for 2 elite pros.

Watching the matches at Hard Times on table #1 was painful.

I think the thing with this table is not just that the pockets are small in size, but they also play fairly tight and hang balls up that fall on lots of other tables with the same pocket size.

I tend to agree with this. For 1 hole, it's fine. But for a rotation match, 4.5 is perfectly fine.

I like watching pool on tougher than standard equipment if the players are of high caliber. It tests them and adds a little more suspense to the outs. The pace of play is a little slow, but I think it would be just as slow on a table with 4.5" pockets.

I would have to disagree. There would be more B&R's on 4.5 pockets as well as more runouts.
