Jump/Break cue, Action VS Pure X?

Never tried the Action but owned a PureX for several years and loved it. The only negative thing I have to say about the X is the rubber grip. Lasted about 2 years before the rubber started to fail then eventually wore almost completely off. It made a mess in my case but didn't really bother me too much. Maybe the newer ones have a different composite of rubber. I ended up having mine re-wound with linen anyway.
 
I've also been looking at cheap J/B cues lately. Are you aware of the phenolic tip problem? Phenolic tips can put little smiley face cracks all over a cue ball, so I'm no longer looking at break cues with phenolic tips--rather I'm looking at break cues with hard leather tips, like a Samsara J/B tip. You might want to throw the Billiard Warehouse J/B cue into the mix ($159):

It's unique in that it comes with two shafts: one shaft with a hard leather tip for breaking and one shaft with a phenolic tip for jumping. Joint protectors for that pin type are another $14.

I also want to buy a cue that breaks well, but also jumps well... guys give me suggestions, I wana order tonight.
 
All of those off the shelf cheaper Jump/Break cues are so close to each other that without trying it yourself for a while there is really no difference between them.

I own a PureX one, got it used for a good price. I like the ability to play around with the combination of length and weights, but to make it suit me better I will be taking the shaft down a bit and putting in a leather tip on it.
 
I prefer a cue for each job. I use a Steve Lomax 3 piece Jump Cue, A Mike Webb Player w/ custom extension, and a Mike Webb Plain Jane with Hammerhead tip...

They were about $75 back then.

After using it for a couple of weeks I bought two more to go into my secondary cases. Breaks and jumps well enough for me. I have all the confidence in the world using it.

I don't how much of an equipment geek or how much money the OP likes to spend on pool stuff, but for the money, I find these cues to be a good value.

I have always been of the mind that you NEED a purpose built cue, for each task...

However, the PureX HXT(1,2,3...) is a very stout break cue, and also one of the best jump cues that you will ever use. That said, I replaced my Predator BK III break cue and Gulyassy Reaper jump cue with an HXT1. I've never regretted this decision.

As a side note, I have also sold several of the HXT's locally, and all buyers gave rave reviews.

For me, the choice is easy.

I've added this cue to my list, now I am torn between three.

Actually I am leaning more toward the BW J/B now which is linked in your post, I think Greg is very nice and responsive in emails, which is always nice before purchasing.

I've had the same experience with Greg and Billiard Warehouse.
