I picked up a Jerico Stinger not that long ago and love it! I got a surprising amount of control out of the phenolic tip, but wasn't sure about it since the BCA has gone away from it.
I called Jerry Powers, who makes the cues, to mull it over with him. He says that he has a super hard leather tip for the Stingers now. He thinks that they jump and break almost as good as the phenolic, but with more control. He said that, if I wanted to, I could ship him my shaft and he would change the phenolic tip to the new leather one for $45 (includes return shipping). That, or he would send me a new shaft with the leather tip for $100. That way I could have both tip options... the best of both worlds.
He was very helpful and willing to share info. Feel free to contact him. He posts his phone number on the website:

Hope this helps.
