Jump/Break cue

I have been reading a lot of posts and I am picking up on that a lot of people are leaning towards specialty cues that are dedicated to 1 specific task.

Should I sell of my Jump/break and pick up a jump cue?
Who makes the best jump cue?

I think the main reason most people are going to two cues for Jumping and Breaking is that BCA recently made phenolic tips on Break Cues illegal. And, phenolic is the nuts for jumping.

I personally went to two separate cues a few years ago, because I don't like breaking with phenolic; You get no cue ball control, as you do from a hard leather tip.

IMHO, of course.

I heard a lot of good things about Steve Lomax Jump cues.

I am presently using a Jerico Stinger J/B. It Jumps excellent with its phenolic tip. The break is out of control powerful. I like to break hard, but I am tending to think this is overkill. Unless I can dial it in and figure out how to squat whitey, probably go back to a Dufferin bar cue.

Jerico Stingers were made for more of a medium speed break... around 20mph

i think maybe you should keep the stinger and just buy another break cue. the stingers jump great

I called Jerry Powers, who makes the cues, to mull it over with him. He says that he has a super hard leather tip for the Stingers now. He thinks that they jump and break almost as good as the phenolic, but with more control. He said that, if I wanted to, I could ship him my shaft and he would change the phenolic tip to the new leather one for $45 (includes return shipping). That, or he would send me a new shaft with the leather tip for $100. That way I could have both tip options... the best of both worlds.
