Jump Cue NOT WORKING

Not a pun
send me a pm and i'll try and straighten you out if you're having a problem jumping. your stoke CAN be improved, depending on what the problem is.
let me try, maybe it'll help. Although I charge a lot for lessons. This will Cost nothing .
JerseyBill

Thanks Bill. I'll do that in a few minutes.

ezjumper.com let me check to make sure it is the correct website
I'm not sure about this one. Thanks!

Right here is the first part of your problem Joey. 3/4" slate has more give so jumping takes more stroke. Then add the effect of a heavy c/b and jumping becomes a real effort. Another example is jumping on 2" slate (Conley ultimate) jumping is simple with a full cue. 2" slate is like a slab of concrete. :D

Rod
The 3/4" slate might be part of the problem.

Joey ...Joey ...Joey ...I'm only gonna tell you this one more time.
GET A LOMAX JUMP CUE !!
and a justabridge aint bad to have in your bag either.Have not tried it on the
heavy ball.....maybe a member who has will chime in .

I've heard nothing but good things about that Steve Lomax cue maker.

The 3/4" slate on a Valley does give a bit when jumping, making it a lot harder to jump. I have tried The Frog, The Predetor, and a J B with a phenolic tip. The cheap cue with the phenolic tip jumps well on 3/4" slate. Johnnyt
Yep! I think you're right. When I go to bar table tournaments I will have a phenolic cue tip and a jump cue that has a little more weight than the Predator Air.

Never been crazy about the Pred Air jumper. There's a lot of players out there much better than me that love them, but I personally think the plastic shaft is too flexible and doesn't transfer energy into the cue ball as easily as well made wood jump cues similar in weight.

When I had a Pred Air, it seemed like you could do more things with it as far as back spin, sidespin, but if you were just a little off, the thing would really punish you.

Try a Lomax when you get a chance. :D

Good luck!
Thanks T. The predator Air is GREAT for jumping with red circle cue balls and you're right about applying side spin. I haven't had much problem with it punishing me except on bar tables with heavy cue balls.

I like the bungee and lucasi,
Mess and air-time make a mean jump cue as well..
I had Worked in a pool room for years, used to hit balls every chance I got with who ever and met losts of players..just about all of em had a jump cue, I got to try out lots of jump cues..lol..
_there is a few I did not come across and some new ones I have not used...
P.S jump shots on rug cloth or loose cloth don't work out like they do on tightly stretched tournament play cloth...I'm no pro player, just my option
-
Good luck on your jump shots
Rob.M

I will have to check out Mess (or Mezz?) and Air Time? jump cues. I had a bungee jump cue stolen from me and replaced it with a Predator Air. Never tried a Lucasi.
Thanks.

almost nothing's good for jumping heavy bar balls.

This is not true.

The Bunjee Jumper and it's clones at 8-9oz are great for jumping barbox cueballs including the oversized ones.

I have preached this for years that the ultralights - jump cues at 6oz or less - are no good for playing pool. Yes they are great at getting the ball in the air but you have to over stroke the shot when you want to control the cueball.

Jump cues at 8-9oz FEEL like a regular cue when you hit the cue ball, you can feel the stroke and adjust pretty much the same as when you are using a full cue on a level shot.

I have done countless exhibitions where I had a collection of cueballs and on a bar table to PROVE to people that the cue worked equally well with all balls.

JoeyA,

I have had the chance to jump with the predator air and to be honest with you if you have the factory tip that predator put on it you are really only using about 80% of its full potential. I personally have a stealth AT-1, its a 3 piece jump cue so it has the extension like the pred air but I bought it with a (Joe Picone???) White diamond tip on it, this tip turned it from being an average jumper that it was with the previous factory tip into an animal that I can clear full balls a half a ball apart. I am a taller person with longer arms so i do have the ability to put alotta stroke into it but its a night and day difference, I really think that a tip like this would help anybody improve especially if your a person who isn't great a jumping. Also I noticed that your talking about a big cue ball on the bar table, im from iowa all we play on is bar tables with big cue balls lol so this post particularly applies to your specific situation.

John,
As I recall, you developed the Bunjee Jump Cue and you also had excellent jump technique. I may PM you shortly for some additional information.

Joey, I play on bar tables alot. I actually think the Pred Air (owned one & sold it) is just too light as a jump cue. You have to do too much work & it invites a greater source for error. I bought a Lomax jump cue and am more than impressed and happy with it. I play with a lot of Intermediate & Master players, and I'm not aware of one that has tried a Pred Air and kept it. The Lomax isn't heavy by any means. It's just got enough extra to make it workable without having to exert a lot, and it works well close up or at a distance.

Joey,

When you play on the bar boxes are you using the green logo aramith cueball designed for coin ops?

Anyway I play league & tournaments on the valley bar boxes. I would suggest Chilton Flying Eagle jump cue. Not great on the big table, but very good on the bar box.

Joey, this may be a little hard to believe but I am jumping and breaking with a players cue that I put a phenolic ferrule/tip on .I dont skimp on equipment either but it jumps and breaks as good as anything else I have tried,I could have sold it many times over.I dont think its just a one in a million player cue and I dont have but about $100 in it and I play exclusively on a barbox, higher price doesnt mean IMHO that its better,If u get a chance test drive one or if ur going to vegas you can try mine Good Luck Joey

Thanks Chris! Lomax is leading the pack right now. Steve is a Louisiana Man and that puts him at the top of the list.

I've never tried the Chilton Flying Eagle. Thanks,

lomax jumper = the dead assed straight up gangsterized NUTS. seriously, they are very good cues and steve's a great guy to deal with. look into one, i suck and even i can jump using his jump cue.

I have a Predator Air and can't wait to find a buyer to take it off my hands. I was able to jump, making contact with my OB at every attempt using my old jumper ( which was stolen ) and now I'm 50/50 trying to get air bourne with the Air  I'm definitely interested in a Lomax.

Advice . . .

Go see someone locally who is "da man" . . . get a lesson on jumping . . . it ain't the bow or arrow that's broke - it's the Indian.

Most all jump cues are the same . . . the hands and mind that grab them are not.

Joey, if you can, try the Lucasi Hybrid. A guy at the hall let me try his out for quite a few shots and I was thoroughly impressed.
This is coming from a guy who is not on speaking terms with his jump cue.
The Lucasi was amazingly easy. For the price, you'd be doing yourself a favor trying one for a few shots.

Classic Joey again. Just can't help yourself from trying to get action, huh? God is watching you. If I didn't know you better, I'd be ashamed.

Get one of these. Theyll get you over anything. Made here in texas and jump like a jackrabbit. I know cause I was never good at jumping. Got this thing and I felt like I was cheating :D All purplheart so its stiff and a 3 cushion taper with a 1peice G10 tip. Not good for breaking but itll jump over the moon.
Come to think of it im gonna start carrying this around to the bars. I use my varney right now but this would be perfect for a barbox.
