I don't do many of these, but just got one back and thought I pass this photo on to any one considering using the uni-loc aluminium jump pin.
It snapped right at the top of the threading, you can see a void in the aluminiun right below the "v" in the picture. I definitely wouldn't recommend using these. I made this cue for a local friend of mine about
3 years ago, so I have a pretty good idea that it wasn't abused. If I remember correctly, I only made two with this pin and the other one is local, so I can keep my eyes on it.

In case any one was thinking, yes it's a genuine uni-loc.
 
I would think that any aluminum pin would be subject to breakage, the stuff just aint that strong. Are there other styles of aluminum pins that are in common use ?

Do you suspect he was breaking with the joint not tight or is the void an air bubble in the aluminum? I couldent quite see in the picture.
 
I once saw an aluminum radial pin break. Probably saved the guy about $100. Had the pin been titanium or stainless, the cue would have snapped for sure.
I bought a few of the uni-loc jump pins, but never used them. They are for sure pretty weak. They measure .205" in the spot where the one in the picture is broken.

What would you recommend for the jump handle joint.Bob flynn ( denalicues or qmaker ) on the forum,Is making me a jump break and I think he's going to use the g 10 pin.Also how long should the jump handle be,i had a sledghammer and liked the cue.He asked me this question and I don't know what to do except measure my old cue when I get a chance.

I'm pretty sure he had it snugged up tight. It sure looks like some type of void, but could be just the first thread area of the threads. The way the aluminium fractured, I think it sort of pulled apart, rather than sheared. Like if you twist the head of a bolt to tight.
 
3/8-10 quick release aluminum pins are sweet.they come loose in 3 or 4 turns and they are solid.i like my jump handle short 11"-12" but some like them longer.

Actually, I am going to use the G-10 in the JOINT. For the pin used to connect the handle to the forearm (the J/B pin) I am going to make one. Still awaiting measurements!!

G-10 is highly abrasive i hear.not that good for wood threads.those new 3/8-10 quick release are the nuts.
