Jumping Techniques: Overhand or Underhand?

i stick with underhanded unless its less than 4 inches away. im pretty accurate that way. i can also jump one handed right and left handed but i can shoot a ball in with my playing cue left handed to save my life.

one handed is not that hard if you find that balance point and have some coordination. try it out if u havent already. it works well when you have to hold the light out of the way so u can see the shot too with the other hand :o) kills all action though and im not even that good.

I use a dart stroke for jumps over about 45 degrees shaft angle, and use underhand (i.e. normal-ish) for jumps under about 30 degrees shaft angle. The angles in between generally depend on how high and whether I want follow or draw on the cue ball, and on where on the table the cue ball is.

Also, when I have to reach to complete the jump shot I'll often use the dart method

Define "SIDE armed", I'm not sure what that is.
Rafael jumps this way with his playing cue... it's off to his side... ~30 degrees (rotated down or clockwise) from the dart stroke, which is oriented vertically... and his grip is very much like his normal grip... using the full hand (unlike the dart stroke which uses just the thumb and the forefinger and they're pointing upward).

I'll try and find some of his videos to see this. Thanks for the explanation.

Jumping

Many Pool rooms do not allow you to 'practice' jump shots. They allow jump shots in normal competition, but not to practice as it is too hard on the cloth.

Shooters, here, only allow practicing jump shots 1 week before they are going to recover the tables.

Luckily I don't have such rules at my house!

I always shoot underhand, I cant even do the dart shot as I shoot with my left but doing EVERYTHING else with my right hand. For the dart I would have to use my right but tried and its useless with both hands.

:(
