Just a man's name on the label...

YOu might cringe when you hear this story.

The palmer I have is a custom, that was made in 74'. There were three indenticals made for a guy. I got mine because a buddy who owned a pool hall that I ran and I used to go around and buy pool tables and refurbish and sell them. He had gone to beverly hills to look at a nine foot a guy was selling. The guy said he had bought all three cues in 1974 for 425 a piece. My friend ended up getting all three pool cues and the nine foot turn of the century one piece slate table for 2500!!!!! HE sold the table alone for 12000.

Well, his brother got one of the cues and he got two of them. His brother sold his to some dipwad for 100. The guy ended up not LIKING it, don't know why and sold it back to him for 85. I had a mcdermott EI-5 at the time and wanted to buy the cue off of him. HE wanted 150 for it. I told him I'd give him my cue and fifty bucks for it. HE accepted. I've had it ever since.

I have trained in martial arts since I was 7 or 8. I used to spin my cue around like a sword or a staff. Don't cringe yet, it gets worse. Well my buddy, who owns two other identical cues tries the same thing one night and it slips out of his hand. it lands at an angle and splits right in the middle of the forearm. We ended up cutting it down to a jump cue. Now you can cringe.

The other cue and every other cue in the hall gets stolen, but I had luckily taken my cue home with me that night. It ( the stolen palmer) ends up being bought by Tommy Baker, who has since moved to Colorado? So I have one, and Tommy BAker has the other one as far as I know and the other one is a jump cue somewhere. I had to refurbish mine because one of the MOP inlays popped out cause I used to break with it. I did and it turned out great. I've been working on starting up a custom cue shop for the last couple of years. I should have some to post in a few months. Ever since I saw the inside of that cue that shattered, I knew I wanted to make cues. Just gorgeous seeing a full spliced cue from the inside.

I've been learning and planning how to make cues ever since and will hopefully be up and running within the next few months.

I have some ideas that I want to try out in wood joining and joint work.

Actually, much better than that!

I almost fell off my chair when I got a very nice e-mail from Peter Balner. Peter and Pete Margo are still friends and they will be able to provide me with a lot of information about the history of Palmer.
