Does your game ever fluctuate?

I mean -- like for a while -- you are firing on all cylinders. No shot is missable. Any position play is doable. And then... you come back the next day, or maybe even mid-session the same day, become screamingly helpless?

I had a nice run going recently but feel like I just lost it and entered a bit of a slump. Started playing a local weekly tournament and was doing okay, not winning or anything but for a couple months I was getting 2-3 wins before getting knocked out (double elimination) and I was happy with that as that’s pretty good for me. Then a couple weeks ago just didn’t have it, went two and out, and have been struggling a bit since.

So it goes. My game often has fluctuations like that so not unfamiliar territory, but always frustrating.
 
I'm currently on an upswing. But that was after a few weeks of what I considered to be really bad play with a few flashes of brilliance.

So...yes.

Kinda

For me it certainly does fluctuate. For a while I am missing easy shots. No shot is make-able.
Can't get shape if my life depended on it. And then, The next day I play like God.

I still think I play better now than when my eyes worked. I just have no one with in a 100 miles that plays. Hard to know how I would do in battle.
 
Yes. Two weeks ago I was in dead punch. Not sure what brought it on but I was probably 50-75 points above my normal level. Even the exotic kicks and multi-rail banks were going. I wish I could bring that on demand.

sure.. I think even the best players in the world have times where they run through rough patches. I was always told when your game takes a step back thats when you should push harder because your getting ready to level up.
 
Yes, for sure. I am left eye dominant, but sometimes it seems like that changes and my game goes to crap. Funny thing is before I make a thin cut, I always drop my head and make sure my left eye is dead over the cue and I follow the shaft with that eye up to and through the shot line. It amazes me how often I have to adjust a centimeter or so. Then I realize I should do this on every shot...

Interesting and also the timing. I been hitting balls daily to get Derby ready. lol. My buddy and I just had this conversation. My mind wants to tell me as a younger player I was in stroke much more consistent than this ole guy that still loves the game and turn 65 in March. In same evening can play a strong set and very next set look like a fish.
 
Evereyones does......Everyone has a "range" of ability.....your speed is the average between your particular bad and good....(where most usually play).....NOTE: your good may not be as good as SVBs good....(even though you may think it is)

Mine is measured by the 3-blind mice.....🤮

I have two speeds...bad, and worse. 🙃
 
All the time. It ususally happens when i have not been playing alot. Uaually i think i'm some natural talent and i can just fire balls in the hole. Then i come to realization that I'm not a natural talet and i have to work at it.
 
Pool and golf- similar stories for most non pros --- the games are much more difficult to master than it would appear to those who have not attempted to do just that! Is it the mind or the body-- it is both!
 
Sadly damn near everything I do has huge fluctuations. I haven’t been able to cure it ever. Can be a game, business, driving a car.

I’d rather be the even keel type guy, however I’m not. And I can’t figure out how to fix it.

"I never know if I am going to show up." Is a statement I often make. Playing small tournaments nightly back in the day led me to that conclusion. The times I won usually had a do or die shot. If I made the shot it got easier from there. Confidence comes with success. Success comes with confidence. 🤷‍♂️
I only recall one occasion where my confidence was shaken once I had it. I had made it to the point match in the White Spot big show 64 man tournament. My confidence got shaken when I missed a shot and was not sure why. That put me on tilt which led to me trailing 6-2 going to 7. Eek yikes and well my version of the self to self talk as I racked for the last time was similar to the Tin Cup caddy coaching.

Is my best recollection of the pep talk. It worked and I won! I had released the tension by accepting the inevitable.
Saying, "just relax" is easy. Doing it ain't always so easy. 🤷‍♂️
I just watched a new C J Wiley video on YouTube that has a similar message.
