How can SSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOO many cues "hit/play just like a Southwest" ??????????????

I've never hit with a SW, so I can't judge, so I would gather that SW cues are nothing special, since they hit just like every other cue out there???

Russ...........

Southwests are like chicken. When something has a hit people cant really describe but it's closest to a southwest they say it hits just like a southwest. Just like when people say something tastes like chicken.

So really it's the rubber chicken of the pool world.

Very good question...
IMO
S/W cues became legendary among many players because of thier great playability, several make that same style of cue now is all...I like S/W cues, but there are many other cuemakers that every bit a fine product...
James White/Paul Mottey put out a great flat-faced style cue like s/w and thier cues all play great"
Pete tascarella makes a very nice flat-faced cue, as does Joel Hercek, Tim Scruggs/Mike Cochran also" the list goes on, ...
I dont want to lessen S/W cues, But so many of the 'little guys" get passed over , Bryan Mordt/BCM , Travish/Blackcreek / Mike Stacey , Cory Barnhart, Andy Gilbert , and many many more I think of that really do a great job on thier cues...
I hope this helps a little' it seems like a nice place to give Honorable Mention to some very dedicated guys out there who love what they do, and make some very nice cues"

I wouldn't call Andy Gilbert a "little guy".
Hal,
I totally agree...
I consider Andy a great cuemaker, I may have listed wrong, accidentally...
I was running out of time on my lunch brake when I was replying...
I will be listing a really nice Gilbert when I get home from work"
A beautiful cue that plays as good as ANY Cue i have owned, BETTER than most of them"

Does it taste like chicken? ... the cue in your avator :p

I think that many post that their cues hit like a SW and have never even hit with one. It is just window dressing to get people to bite on the cues they may have for sale. BTW, I have about 8 customs for sale that hit great, just like a SW? Anyone interested?

?????????

Hit is just like a SW is a selling ploy as SW are one of the all time greats in wood to wood flat face joint cues. Just like a used car-salesman might say. (Oh it rides an drives just like a Cadillac) SW aren't for everyone as many people own SW for investment potential an never play with them.Obviously they like the hit of something else.

Many cues are grouped into "hit like a SW", I think to 1) state that they are quality-made, well-balanced cues, and 2) state that they are firm hitting cues.

Honestly, no other cue plays like a SW, or a Mottey, or a Hercek, etc. Everyone is different, even if it is a very subtle difference, and there are differences between the SWs, shafts, ferrules, tips, etc. I think that the more advanced your game, the more all the subtleties are noticable to you. Also, many really great players (like Efren) are going to be great whether they hit with a SW or a broom handle.

I digress, but, I still think most comparisons of this type are simply a way for someone to try to get across the fact that a certain cue has a favorable hit...and yes, I have played with a SW.

Hopefully sometime soon I will purchase a SW. I do want to add one to my collection. Then I can understand what all the fun is about!!

Which SW you refering to? 341-95? They are so many out there. Not all are alike. You can say almost similar but definitely not all are the same. They have different woods for forearm. so which one??

Russ...

Get one with a steel joint like Showman. Have him balance the cue 2 inch above the wrap, attached with shaft above 4.2 oz. That will be a better player.

No Johnny,

I was simply addressing the fact that there are so many cues for sale that "hit just like a SW". It is obviously just to make the cue more appealing for the potential buyers. It just gets a little old.

I am not degrading the hit of the cue itself, there are many great cuemakers out there and many great hitting cues.
