Bob and i had a very long talk on the phone just the other nite, Bob is 62 years old nowadays but he still plays any and all champions that comes his way (Bobs home pool hall), over the years Bob has played all the great pool players and believe me the man won a whole lot more then he lost, this was when pool players really did match up and play, hell they was betting more money back in the 60s 70s 80s then they do now, and quite a few bet their own as in Bob Hunt always bet the limit as much as the other player wanted to bet (thats how Mr.Hunt rolled), that was our main topic we were asking one another why doesnt all these great pool players today match up and bet something like their peers did before them and all this NONSENSE with racking the balls, playing only on this table, qball type, bull shit rules, racking the 9 on the spot, one Never wanting to play unless everything is in their favor and never ever betting their own money, i think we have one true gambling pool player out there today and that is Bartram He will get up and b et and play with out having everything his way and there are a few others out there also, but not many, Oh yeah and Bob Hunt stills gets up and plays ANYBODY that walks through his doors, at 62 that is impressive!

We grew up in a different era. Players of our day didn't go through a bunch of Bull before after and during the matches. We played each other and the best player, at that time, took home the money.
That's why we got so much action. I'd get a headache today dealing with the nonsense. Therefore I stay out of it.

I first played Bobby just about 40 years ago in straight pool. He crushed me the first game and I knew that I had no chance, but played another just to see him play - a thing of beauty. Bobby is also a super nice guy. When he came into the room that day, I had never seen him before. There was no hustle in him, no deceit. He exuded confidence, for good reason. He didn't care what game we played or for how much, that was for me to decide. He just wanted to play. Bobby was also a friend of another great Connecticut player, Ray Guilbeault who passed away too soon a number of years ago.

Turning Stone was good to me this time around. I felt really good at the table and my results reflected it.
I know I can't win this event but I just like going there and playing. It's what pool should be. A great tournament at a great venue.
It could pay more but it could also pay less. I'm happy.

No need for a thanks (please dont take that the wrong way), it is what it is Bob was is a great pool player that had all the heart in the world to play anybody and bet his money, and even more so, Bob is very good people!

Now all you need to do is come down to Buffalo Billiards, and see some real betting and good pool playing and match ups. Champions all over the place.

It just seems like there are so much fewer players who are willing play for anything compared to even 15-20 years ago. Even then I remember going around to different places trying to make money and it was usually pretty easy to plus up and still make it back to the poolroom to take a shot at some of the better players. If you lost or went broke you could repeat the whole process to get back on your feet.
Now, if you lose there aren't many other people who you can make it back from, even the really cheap action. Getting a favorable matchup seems so much more important today because of that. Also, at least in Detroit, there seems to be much less money available so if you go broke you are often dead in the water because there aren't many people to borrow from to get back on your feet. The daily expenses also seem really high so that limits a lot of people in regards to their working bankroll. I have a feeling that the same is true in other parts of the country and I think that has a lot to do with the relatively limited amount of gamblers out there. I'm not trying to over generalize every room or player out there, just saying that staying in action seems a lot tougher and the pool of players out there willing to gamble seems a lot smaller than even 20 years ago let alone the heyday of the 60s and 70s.

Seen Bobby play many times. Since 95 or so, he prefers 1P and he didnt just play in his homeroom-he traveled within an 80 mile radius pretty often.
He was also one of the few better players with a JOB. He was a Postman IIRC.

Ive been friends with bobby for 20-25 years ive traveled with him for years going to tournaments and gambling all over the place he's a great player, ive seen him win many joss tournaments such a awesome stroke smooth yet powerful, we all would watch bobby and lisciotti go at it at milford rec all the time, weather they played 9 ball or 1 pocket always excellent matches
You are rite on about Bobbys stroke, its one of the best there is, straight, smooth and a thing of beauty, Bobby didnt have to hit the qball hard at all to make it move, a sign of a great stroke!
