I totally agree...I couldnt cheat if I wanted to....I woulldnt have been able to play if I had. It would have absolutely just ate me live. I just can see how people do cheat like that. But it does happen and I feel sorry for them. I woudl rather win with dignity and honesty, than win by cheating...Its all about fun and trying to prove yourself...if you cheat, you lose all your integrity and take the fun out of it for yourself and others...and word travels fast in the pool community...

Nice going Shawn. Yeah, I would break bread with you any day. Thanks for what you do for our veterans.

If you cheat, you lose your own personal self-respect, let alone the respect of others. What greater loss could you possibly have than your self-respect?

Thanks Joey...I agree 100%..if you dont have respect for yourself...you will be miserable in life.. If i get beat, I want to be beat honestly..if I win, I want to win honestly...there shouldnt be anything clouding your win or loss....that wouldnt be a good feeling..

And as far as Veterans..man, with me being a disabled Vet myself..I cant tell you how gratifying this job is....I come to work and go home every day with a smile on my face...knowing I made a positive impact on a Veterans life that day. It is such a joy geting to interact with vets and thier families...I never knew what a good job was till I got lucky enough to work here.....Yea, at my last job I made roughly 2700.00 a week...but for 2003, I was home a total of 63days....thats not fun..good money, but not fun...I would rather make less money, but be able to go home to my family each and every night....and serving the Vets is the icing on my cake! You guys have NO idea how much I appreciate each and every Vet....even you Navy guys

good to see the sportsmanship in the game, since i started playing pool i havent seen anything but any way to win will do, not like snooker where we have great sportsmanship and honesty.

keep up the good work, and well done with ur win, ur son will be getting plenty of pocket money

Wait a minute.... Or you suggesting that snooker doesn't have bad sportsmanship or dishonesty?

I could have swore that I heard something about a british snooker player dumping games here recently.....maybe my imagination though....I can almost guarentee you though that snooker has some dishonest players as well....thats just part of life

Sorry guys....I feel kinda silly to even do this...but here goes..

I have really been putting in alot of hrs on the table here lately to do the best that I can at the US Amateur Qualifier in Shreveport La in Sept. I coach my sons soccer and baseball teams and my mind has really been fried lately with dealing with all the parents, and dealing with the kids...good kinds though...they just like to play around a bit 2 much for me...but hey, they are kids. I have been playing 8 and 9 ball with my son trying to teach him the game, my 16yr old nephew has shown an interest in pool, and his 16th birthday was May 2nd...so I have him a Schon Sneaky Pete that I had...I work at the Regional Veterans Affairs office and thats a pretty stressful job in itself....With all the stress I have had, I was really worried about the ACS tournament that I was going to play in on April 24,25.

Mind you, the tournament started at 7pm sharp..Sand Springs is at least 1hr away..and I got off work late, had to go get my wife and son, drive to Sand Springs and pay for the room at the Hampton Inn...as I was pulling up and my cousin was calling me on my phone saying that i had 5min or I had to forfiet my 1st game...CRAPPPP...so i rush and get the family checked in, go across the street to the pool hall...i barely get inside the door and the tournament director met me and pointed me to my table...(I had 30 seconds to spare)...Well, with rushing around....tired from the days work...and just being stressed smooth out....here is what I accomplished that weekend...

http://www.pooltulsa.com/2009 results Singles.htm

I played alot of really good players..and I went undefeated, but I it would have been just as fun even if I hadnt done so well.

The tournament directors husband (Mr. Keith Costigan) came up to me and said it was a pleasure playing against me, and that he wished everyone was as good of a sport as I was and it was refreshing seeing someone play that could make it so fun...To me, Him saying that just MADE my weekend....I think pool should be fun, and should be played with respect.

There was a situation where I could have cheated and won...I didnt, I instead did what was right knowing that it could cost me the game...Later, someone else I didnt even know came up to me and wanted to shake my hand..didnt have a clue what for..he said he seen what I did and wanted to thank me for being such a good sport and being honest because you dont find that very often..I so very much appreciated that and will never forget it.

I just love to play pool, hate all the drama it can sometimes bring, but try not to let it get me down. I think we should be role models to the younger kids and try and promote our sport, not bash it into the ground. I APPRECIATE AZ and everyone associated with it...This is such a good outlet for me and is very entertaining as well..

Thanks AZ..I appreciate each and every one of you guys and gals!

Sorry...was supposed to be Toot my own horn...not tooo..

I am gonna try and make it to the May 24th $20 8ball bar box Rusty's Fort Worth,TX ....if any of you are there and see me......please come up and say Hi...I would love to meet you!

You need more than a toot. A story like that is a blast, thank you for making my day start right. Was this a first in your pool accomplishments? Nothing like taking your family on that joy ride. I was fortunate to make a runner up finish in a regional tournament but in no way could I have pulled the load you did getting it done. I had my children raised & out on their own. Thats my grandaughter in my avatar she is joining me on the table now with the use of a step stool. Would'nt trade it for anything in the world. Thanks again for the great story, Greg:)

Since I started back to playing pool (I quit for 14yrs) this was my 1st major tourney.....I am going to a big tourney in Ft Worth Tx memorial day weekend...I am getting in as much time on the table that I can because I have paid my entry into the US Amateur Qualifier in Shreveport La in Sept..I am wanting to play in alot more tourneys....but the Family comes first..I just play when I can.....They will go with me...and we will get a room at a Holiday Inn so they can swim and have fun while I am playing if they cant get into the pool halls

I dont really see me doing anything major, but just going and having fun is what I am in it for now..

I started playing pool in 1991..and by 1994 I was rated a 9 at the Billiards Palace in Tulsa....I used to play with Gabe Owen and a bunch of others that are top rated players now back in 1993 at weekend tourneys there at the Palace and we were both rated 7’s then. I got fired from my job in 1993 because I was always out playing pool and missing work..so decided to just play pool....made a really good living playing pool for 1 yr.....met my wife, she was 18 and couldnt get into the bars..so I quit....I reenlisted back into the army and went to Alaska…Got out around 2000 and got a real job…Had 2 children…my 8yr old daughter Tawni passed away July 7 2007 and that was the hardest thing I have ever had to go through.. You just cant imagine the pain I feel each and every day missing my little girl..

Sept 2007 a cousin said he heard that I used to be pretty good at pool and wanted me to play on his pool team…so I went to just shoot with him and another cousin that was on his team….these 2 were the best in the league…well, I got up and broke the first time after all that time and ran a rack of 8ball…..yea, it was luck…but I stared playing on their pool team and have been playing ever since….Mainly pool for me is therapy…we go to family grief counseling on tues nights, but that just depresses me…I hate hearing about all the children passing away, brothers/sisters and parents….its just 2 depressing for me…so Pool is my outlet…I have fun with it, it makes me sane again…
