So I send out my cue butt along with a LD partial shaft to the cuemaker who made the butt. I email him and tell him what I need done ( which is obviously to match up the shaft to the butt, matching ringwork and all and to have it at 30 inches in length. ), He emails me back stating no prob and quotes me a price and wait time. So about a month and a half later he emails me and says the cue is done, go ahead and send the payment, which I do. So I get the cue and it looks great except the metal rings on the collar of the shaft arent even the same as the metal rings in the butt?? At first I'm just like " What the hell?? That's the whole reason why you send in the butt, so he could match the shaft up to it exactly?? Can he not tell the difference between brass and silver?? " After obviously noticing that, I notice the shaft isnt 30 inches like I had requested through email!? It measured out to 29 1/4! WTF! So I email the guy and say politely that the work is great if it only matched in the ringwork and that the shaft was 30 inches like I had ordered, what can we do to fix this lil problem here?? He states that he doesnt remember the request for the 30 inch shaft and that he can fix the ring work problem though. So I tell him that the length is no biggie. I send out the cue along with ANOTHER cue ( which he also made ) with ANOTHER LD partial to be fitted for THAT cue. Now, to cover all bases I email him my order - Fix ringwork on cue 1, and fit cue 2 with LD partial with matching ringwork and at 30 inches in length -. Note that I put this in email AND in writing which I include in the tube with the cues! Taped the paper with the order to the plastic that was wrapping the cues! So He emails me a month and a half later saying the cues are done and that he shipped em out already. I receive the cues about another month and a half from him receiving it and to my DAMN surprise the ringwork is STILL jacked up. He corrected his first mistake by changing the silver rings to brass, but then the color of the phenolic within the rings is a different color than the phenolic outside of the rings! ( I would show what I am talking about but the ringwork is an easy tell of who this cue maker is ). So that cue aside, I inspect cue 2. And you guessed it, everything is perfect EXCEPT the cue is NOT 30 inches in length. This cue maker is a great guy and I love his cues but COME ON!! At this point my only concern is the rignwork matching EXACTLY to the butt of cue 1, the length problem I can let go. Very disappointing but it aint like Im gonna die over it. Just wanted vent it out. It just sux.......

First... Shit happens... It's a small problem. I have LD shafts that are not matched (Ring and Size). They play so good that it negates the small differences. ;)

It's all in the mind. :D

"if it don't go chrome it"

I fooled with cars a lot of years. There we had a saying, "if it don't go chrome it!" Meaning if it wasn't fast and functioning as expected it should look good.

I would be most upset about shafts not 30" within at least a tenth of an inch. The first time there could have been a communications problem. I send the instructions with whatever I send off just like you did then I expect them to be followed or contact made with me before the work is done to explain why they can't be and make other arrangements.

At least from your side of the story you have every reason to be hot. The one thing I can't comment on is the color match on the phenolic since I haven't seen that.

I would send back the shaft and have him buy another limited deflection shaft (at his expense) and make it 30". You pay for custom work and it should be perfect period.

He can keep the shorter shaft and use it when somebody wants a limited deflection shaft thats 29".

Still frustrated........

Yeah I can just re send him th eemail showing my order. Im a really laid back kinda guy and im not easily irritated but this situation was just ridiculous. All becasue he did it twice in a row despite me speaking to him on the phone, email as well as a written order included when sending back the cue. I agree its a small thing and has nothing to do with the performance of the shaft as far as the ring work goes, but like two for pool says, I paid for the correct work to be done and I got less than par and 2 occassions back to back. I am going to wait for a reply and see what he syas and I'll go from there. Thanks all for the replys

IMHO, Not such a small thing at all...

I totally agree with Bob on this. After the first screw-up, the cuemaker should have taken extra pains to get the second order right.

He agreed to do the work according to your specifications. There's no reason to settle for anything less.

stories like this corroborate what im always saying-- that cue collectors have ruined the cue buying market. why would this guy care about you frankly, all he cares about is satisfying the people buying 3 cues each worth 1500. you're nothing, and you're treated as such. my solution, a few cuemakers should come out as strictly "players cuemakers" and satisfy the every need of actual players (what a concept, make cues to actually be played with). would it work, i dont know. any smart cuemakers willing to try it?

I have had this kind of miscommunication several times before. Twice from the same cuemaker. I just sold his cue(s) and moved on. Those losses bother me, but I prefer that to a feud with someone who lacks the concern or talent to get it right the first time. Unreliable is unreliable. Your being right will not magically make him a better wood turner or business man. Cut your losses now and move on to a builder who deserves your business. You never need to mention a name, just take your business elsewhere and play well.

Except when you pay someone to do something it's expected that they'll do it. if the cue maker offered to do the work for free than yeah it's expected that things happen. when you pay for something though that changes things a lot
