Just some cue ramblings....

Craig, glad you corrected this. I was wrong in how that was phrased in my post here. Thank you and sorry to all for the confusion. Sometimes I go a little overboard with my own ramblings.... :( Sorry, Dale.

That being said, let's move a little back to Joe's topics.

One question I have about cored cues. What do you guys think the major driving factor is....consistency of hit, cues staying straight, or something else? Curious to hear opinions on this.

Sean,

My post was a bit harsh, and I apologize...

I heard you run a raffle-pyramid.
MLR? Multi-Level Raffling?
That's pretty low. That's like a redneck driving a car with a PLASTIC coathanger radio antenna.

I once talked to a wise man (Sometimes anyway)who shared this thought with me, Cue making has to be earned, meaning you start off with maybe sneaky conversions then plain janes and so on, and so on, You earn what will be in your future and this will inspire you to push or close the envelope.
Ring any bells.

It's still very true. However like I am saying the bypassing of this via the internet blabber is a contributing factor for the current cue market. You need to look at the market as unbiasedly as possible. We all know that the more choices that are out there, the more people will shop. So with the gluttony of 400-800 dollar cues, it may start to drive down the more experienced mid-level cuemakers, except these new guys rely on that internet blabber to sell more cues and not necessarily the experience factor that you elude to.

But thats is all still part of the process. Sell a guy a 600 dollar cue for 350 and see the great review you get. It's an easier road than the one you may have had to go down as an elder cue maker. Internet buzz is a bigger factor in guys getting established than it should be. Will these guys be around 3-5-10 years from now? Who the hell knows. But with the worlds economy being what it is, the lower tier has benefited greatly by the lack of disposable income that was available in the early to mid 90's.

But the more established guys are still going to get theirs. The buyers with the experience will know that when they need to sell the cue, that they will get as much return on that initial investment as possible, without relying on the buzz.

1) True, but I am just talking more about the retention of the full splice aspect. If someone wants a ring, then by all means go ahead. BUT IMHO it is no longer a "true" titlist, that is my point.

2) Agreed, but I like yesterday. :) More importantly and to the point, a new designation may be in order.

Many Bushkas had the ring making them no longer a "true Titlist". But is that a bad thing. I will trade someone a "true titlist" for their "true Bushka" any day. I suspect it will be a very cold day before anyone takes me up on that offer.

Chris,
I checked our archives and I checked with Mark, neither of us have ever seen a titlist Bushka with a ring above the wrap. A real one, anyways.

you guys forgot:

9. CMs who exclusively use flat bottom non-structural points made to look like true spliced points

et al.

damn, this stuff is starting to sound like US politics...

I don't understand why this is a problem. I know both Gina and Dave Kikel both use flat bottom points and don't hide that fact. Both still make a very sound and great playing cue IMO.

I'm not arguing with you just looking for more insight, information or opinion.

It's not a problem, just not my taste, that's all. And sure, those guys make super cues. Just don't think they look good, even with the small radii that Kikel, Gina, etc. use. I do like some inlaid shapes or "floating points" but not the rounded prongs. Can only live with them if there are inlays on the tips or maybe a black outer veneer that's into ebony (where it's hidden). Points are meant to be structural and sharp imo....but just my opinion on them....and I'm sure others have differing views. :)
