Justin Bergman is on a mission

If I could delete this thread, I would do it in a heart beat. It's hard for me to believe that the wording I use is being slammed as generated by AI.

If I can't enjoy pool and be enthusiastic about it, I'm wasting my time here.
You are not wasting your time. Hang in there with us. Just a few cranks out there. I enjoy your posts way more than most anyone else that posts.

Just click the ignore button. That way in the future you can "skip" reading the nonsense.

Imagine if every player wrote self congratulatory posts about signing up for tournaments. That’s your job! :ROFLMAO:Whoop de do.
This is like a mechanic bragging about showing up to the garage.
It literally IS their job. Players are encouraged to put themselves out there on social media now. It helps build their image and fan base, and builds excitement for pool and for events like the Mosconi Cup.

Great news! I remember when Tony Ellin started playing every event he could, including regionals. He was in tournament action every week. That's when he made it to the US Open finals against Earl. Sad his life was cut short. He would have won at least one Open and who knows how many others.
Yeah, Tony was one hell of a player who had a very big break. He was probably never a top five player, but often a top ten. I got to know him during his PBT days and enjoyed his company. He is sorely missed.

looking forward to seeing him play in these. he's incredibly talented. great touch and position play. in cash games he can be a real tough watch because of his speed, but with a shot clock i really enjoy seeing him play. best i've seen him was (i think) the international 2019, where he played great.

i think the small margins of error and the safety play in WNT (and predator for that matter) will favor him. on the minus side is his jumping. i don't think it's possible to reach a major final in today's game without it

I think if he has some deep finishes in the US Open, Arizona Open, and Florida Open, it might be enough to keep him in top 3 ranking points without having to go overseas. I don't see any other American performing better than him besides Gorst and SVB. It's not like any other American besides those two do well overseas anyways, so that's a moot point.
Agreed. It doesn't take that many ranking points to be an auto-qualifier for Team USA. One good finish, like when Tyler Styer came 3rd at the 2025 UK Open, might be enough and, even if it isn't, will put him in the limelight for a possible wildcard selection.

The bar is so low that he doesn't have to outrun the nuts and not really competing with other Americans for a top 3 spot. If you put a gun to my head, I'm picking Bergman to go deeper than Sky, Billy, and Tyler in the US Open, Arizona Open, and Florida Open.

Edit: if anyone would like to put a friendly wager on that, I'm down. If I win, you buy me a Pagulayan boxer brief. If I lose, I buy you one.
Actually, I suspect that Tyler will be very much in the hunt for the third auto-qualifier spot on Team USA. Yes, he had a poor campaign at the 2025 Mosconi, but it would be premature to write him off.

Dechaine never signed up for any big WNT or Predator events. Last time he played in the US Open was in 2016.
I believe this is in error. I believe that Mike played in the US Open in either 2023 or 2024 but failed to cash. I remember chatting with him at length in the tournament room at Harrah's. Ironically, he drew Jayson Shaw, his old rival on the Joss Tour, but unlike when their rivalry was hottest (perhaps 2014-19), Jayson beat Mike convincingly.

I’ll refrain from applauding Bergman and giving him a participation medal for deigning to show up but knock yourself out.

In 2023 he lost to Jayson Shaw in round 5, Roland Garcia in round 6, at Derby. Maybe that is what you were thinking about.

In the 2024 US Open he lost first round to Lee Van Corteza 9-7, lost his next match in the loser round to Masato Yoshloka 8-3.

Sure, but I'll believe it when I see it. He doesn't seem like the same person pre-Mosconi Cup 2025. That kind of performance could have negative effects on his confidence and overall mental state. Hopefully he has a quick recovery and doesn't dwell on it too much (like I do).

If anything, there's a higher chance Johan picks him as a wildcard or captain's pick due to their relationship, rather than auto-qualifying. If I were a betting man.

It's going to suck that Thorsten is going to get into the team on points.

No offence to him, but he's not very good.

Thanks for the assistance.

Yes, now it's coming back. That Shaw match was at Derby. Mike did, however, play the 2024 US Open at Harrah's, as you have noted, but he did not cash.

Before you sell Justin Bergman short because of his being absent from the tournament scene, you might want to give a very brief moment’s attention to the Wikipedia entry on Joe Balsis.
