Justin Bergman vs Skyler Woodward. Who is the stronger all around player?

I am curious on opinions about who is the stronger player (Skyler Woodward, or Justin Bergman)?

Have these 2 players matched up in recent years, and who has won?

I am a fan of both players, and just curious who is playing better these days, and if it would be a very close match of the 2 were to match up (in a race to 100 on the bar table playing 9 ball, for example).

I am also curious if these players play as good on the big table as they do on the bar table.

Would either of these players have a chance at winning the US Open, or other really big championships that are held on the big tables?

Everyone that I have ever asked as to who was the stronger player, has said Bergman is the stronger player, but I keep hearing about all these big tournaments and matches (against some top players) that Skyler is winning, so I am just very curious about this.

Thanks for any opinions about this.

Bar table is a coin flip….. Big table Bergman wins!

As far as winning a "big tournament"…. I think both of them have the potential for that in their future… They both have great composure and tons of heart…. They are both the kind of player that you want to be betting on instead of against.

My take on Skyler….Great work ethic, will keep improving and become one of the top American players. He has all of the tools to be a top five player in the US (9/10 ball….he may already be there in other games like banks). He really has no fear at the table which is really fun to watch.

My take on Justin B. I think he plays as good as anyone after the break. If he had Shanes break he would be top 3 in the US.. His safety play and kicking are amazing.. I think this really helps to set him apart from others… he is also a GREAT shotmaker. He swears he gets nervous before matches but looks like he is as calm as a human can be when playing regardless the situation.

I think it is pretty even what I have seen.

Skyler is a friend of mine, but he has no cakewalk beating Justin.

To me its a coin flip. I hope they both take it as compliment.

Hopefully, they can continue to BOTH improve, and give Shane the 5 out in a couple years.....

My view on this:

As evidenced by his recent performances, Skyler has the intanglibles required to be more than a regional champion.

Justin Bergman, does, as well.. But if I am not mistaken, he has been playing longer than Skyler?

Something tells me that if a player rises quickly in the way that Skyler has, then the "sky" is the limit. Someone like Bergman who has been improving over 6-7 years? Generally, they plateau. It is VERY hard for a player to improve a couple of balls once they've been playing for a number of years. MUCH easier for a young, fairly new player to make massive jumps in their game in a short time period.

I predict Skyler will get even better in the next two years.. Bergman will play about the same. He might even fall off half a ball.

Yeah, I remember seeing that match a few years ago. I have not had a chance to see Skyler play in person yet, and only heard and read stories about him on here, and just think it is amazing how much better he has gotten over the last few years. Bergman has been playing much longer. I am guessing Bergman is 5 or 6 years older then Skyler(?), and Bergman has been playing serious pool since he was very young, and a lot of that time he spent as Mark Wilsons student. How did Skyler get so much stronger within a few years? It just amazes me. Hope to see him play someday in person. I would really like to see these 2 match up. That would be a great match I think.

Here is a video of the two playing each other in a tournament on a bar box. I have no idea of when the match was played.

I'm going with Bergman, only because I have never seen Sky's one hole game.

Justin took 3 years off of playing pool.

If they played an all around -- all bar table and big table games, Justin would beat Sky handily.

Sky has the capabilities to turn into a true champion. He needs to mature on and off the table. And make good choices on who he runs around with or it won't matter.

Bergman went almost 4 years without playing competitive pool, so I wouldn't say he isn't capable of improving. If we're talking and all around there's another Justin that plays that banks and 1 pocket pretty sporty.

i have

I'm going with Bergman, only because I have never seen Sky's one hole game.

I have many, many times lol. He can probably beat anybody in a short tournament like set and he's even won a One pocket tournament, but matching up for hours Bergman is a overwhelming favorite.

The way i see it is they are about even bar table with Sky maybe a little edge because of his huge bar table break. Justin clear favorite on big table rotation games and one pocket, Sky favorite in banks. I think you'll find it will take a few more years of him getting out and playing more in some of the big track tournaments for him to get better. Then look out. I watched the Archer match and i've never seen him act as nervous. He looked like a deer caught in the head lights. I have a feeling that will change in a few years.

There's a match online of sky and Bergman playing barbox 9 ball and Bergman torched him.. Bergman has another gear right now over skyler

Yep! You got it right!

Sky is a young gun and a champion in the making (if he can avoid the trappings of our game) but he cant beat Justin.

Justin plays great One Pocket and all the other games well too. I've watched them both a lot over the past year, advantage Justin.

I got Bergman as the second best all around player in the country and Shane the best on earth right now lol , if Bergman broke better he'd be a world champ no doubt

Thanks for any opinions about this.

This past summer, they met in the finals of a BB 10 ball tourney at the Carom Room in Wisconsin. Justin was in the hot seat and beat Skyler in 1 set.

Ok...just looked it up. The tournament was this past August, $100 entry, $7,000 added, first prize was $5,400 and first place in the Calcutta paid $20,500.

top four places:

1) Bergman
2) Sky
3) Corey
4) Saez

FWIW....SVB, Kiamco, Nevel, Bowman, and Hatch also played in this event!

I've made money betting on both of them. I will stake Sky in banks, I don't think Justin has an edge playing 9 ball, specially on the bar box.

My opinion is Bergman is the best now at everything except banks.
But SKYs ceiling looks to be higher, he looks as if he could be the next SVB. He wants to be, has the drive to be, and does not have any bad habits. So there's a chance. Time will tell.
