That's right! There are so many scenarios where knowing the nuances of the rules will help you win racks when you thought you were in trouble.
 
If all of the odd rules are a factor, maybe any future match ups should just use normal American 8 ball rules- one ball on the spot rather than the 8 ball on the break, dirty combos after the break allowed and shooting forward on frozen balls. Also, call your pocket. I like watching UP matches- especially the shot clock, but I think their rules are mostly stupid and should be changed.

Why not English 8 ball in the future? Seems a little embarrassing if we insist on only matching up with our rules and equipment.

That's what I posted about. They start a new league, how do we stand out from the other league. We change where you spot the money ball, we call all fouls, you don't touch any ball or catch a cue ball as it scratches, put on a shot and game clock, on and on.

In that context, it's micro management; formerly known as divide and conquer.
 
pros should be playing games like one pocket or banks. not a break and run out contest. too boring except for the die hard players to watch.

and of course a great commentator is the key to keeping interest.

This hilarious (unintentionally I assume).

The vast majority of average pool fans (let alone average occasional pool players) would rather watch 8b or 9b rather than one pocket. Nobody but “die hard players” (or maybe die hard pool fans) wants to watch one pocket.
 
few watch any pool as it is. having a great commenters explaining things and watching shots that you get to understand is more fun and better than just watching someone run out over and over.

pool overall is boring. making it more of a learning experience opens it to a wider audience.

thats why bowling has died out on tv. just the same bowlers rolling the same shot knocking down pins. only did hard bowlers watch the greats redo the same shot over and over.

I only saw the first 3 frames they released for free. Can't remember which frame it was of those 3, but there was one shot Cousin's missed and Archer was saying he'd sold the game out, Bergman was certain to clear up with so few balls on the table. I looked at the table and thought Cousins has clearly played a 2 way shot and will be happy with how little he's left. Was wondering if I was an idiot and missing something, but Bergman didn't pot and Cousins won the frame.

I know Archer is a great of the sport, but seriously left me questioning his knowledge. Whenever I've seen him commentate players seem to go a different route than he suggests they will too. He was also being a bit of a dick to the other commentator about him having an ugly bald head for no reason.

I think Archer speaks without thinking too often- he obviously knows pool, but seems disinterested or distracted- not a very good commentator

IMO Archer plays 8b like a 9b player and also commentates on it like a 9b player. He doesn’t instinctively see the patterns that good 8b players do. He’s not alone in this. Rodney is in the same boat IMO. Elite 9b players can still run out most of the time on these tables, but occasionally the wrong choices bite them.

Hatch is way better at this in the booth and on the table. Maybe it’s because he grew up playing 14.1.
