Some Paypal advice
There are 3 issues with PayPal businesses should be aware of:
1) Your Paypal account is only as secure as your password and/or your PC. If either one gets compromised someone can gain access to your Paypal account and use your real bank and/or credit card accounts to send payments to themselves.
Common methods for people gaining access to your password are fake "Phishing" emails that claim to be from Paypal asking you to click a link and enter your password to confirm account information.
Additionally once you have advertised PayPal payments on your website or Ebay listings and your email address is know people can target your account via your email address and attempt to simply guess the password. (I don't know how good Paypal's server is at detecting this.)
Common methods for people compromising your PC are trojans, spyware, and email worms viruses. Once one of these is running on your PC locally it can directly grab your password as you type it on your keyboard, or potentially from files or emails on your PC.
2) Anyone who accepts credit card payments (Whether via PayPal or not) has to be aware of the high level of credit card fraud at present, and faces the possibility of dispatching stock on the basis of a credit card payment that is later clawed back by the credit card company due to fraud. In this instance the seller can lose their stock if they are unable to physically recover it from the fraudulent purchaser.
3) There are some people who have a lot of problems with PayPay's customer service. A good site for researching this is
www.paypalsucks.com. I personally have had no adverse experiences but I use it very lightly.
As as result I would not recommend PayPal to anyone who is not sure if their local PC is properly secured.
Additionally I would not recommend online credit card payments to any business that does not have adequate methods to ensure the legitimacy of their customers. If in doubt talk to the account managers at the credit card companies you use.
