Kamaui Black tip breaking issue

I had a Kamaui Black Soft on my stick since Sept or Oct.
I installed it myself. Glue side down. I used Tiger glue.
I have complete confidence in my ability to R&R tips.
So my issue:
The tip was waering down, still had probably 2-3 layers left on it.
I could tell the last couple of weeks the hit got harder and harder.
Well I am not gentle with my tips. I need the grip for my spin and use the tip pick accordingly.
Well the other night I was simply chalking the tip and the tip tears or I see it a chuck of it seperated from the rest of the tip. I look an tug at it and tipchunk of the tip tears. Now understand that tip still remaind on my stick. It was like a chukc of it cracked off.
Has anyone heard of anythinf like this?
Don't get me wrong, I really do like the tip. Just a little confused on what happened here. Maybe a jammed the tip pick in too much... I don't know.
Needless to say I ahd to yanke it off and use a regaulr Kamaui med/soft on there for now. Not sure if I will throw another black on.

First, if you have only 2-3 layers left on your cue (tip that is) - change it for Gods sake !
This is normally very close to the ferrule and it normally makes a harder hit.
Also, if you are though on your tip using a file or a tip pic - it could produce
some heat and some of the layers or parts might get hurt and "leave" the tip due to the glue get heated.
My customers have had some misscues with the black but nothing has been reported
regarding the original.

So;
1- change your tip !
2- If miss-cues arrives - is it the black verion ? In case - when ever you have a
miss-cue, always rough the surface since a miss-cue burns the surface and would
make it happen again.

Hope it helped.

i dunno about that. i dont think its a kamui black issue. with these premium tips a lot of guys dont wanna change it until they necessarily have to since they cost a lot more money. u'd never get this problem with a triangle cuz once it starts wearing down guys just get a new one on there so u experience less problems. i've seen lots of ppl wear their expensive layered tips down to 1 or 2 layers before changing them. and yea, u run into problems like that but u cant blame the tip for it.

Correctomundo. If you leave the tip meaty and don't shape it too round, keep it rolled with a tapper, and chalk properly, you shouldn't have any problems providing you are accustomed to playing with that tip.

When I say rolled with a tapper, I mean, the tip tapper was meant to be tapped, but it works better when you roll the tip across the face of the tapper 360 degrees. That way, it doesn't smash it down unnecessarily, and also works better!

I've had brand new blacks blow up on me when I was testing them for masse! And I didn't like them. I think the black should really only be used where they were intended for highly humid areas. If you live in a dry climate use brown leather tips.

actually i had the same thing happen to my kamui black medium. the tip had about four layers remaining and as i was chalking up, it just tore off and left about one layer remaining on the ferrule. but i like how it plays so i replaced it with another spare kamui black. will have to see if it happens again.

Using a tip pik on any layered tip can cause the layers to separate. I use a Brad Scuffer and roll my tips on the scuffer as a previous poster described. This creates indentations that hold chaulk and does not affect the integrity of the tip layers.
