Kamui 1.21 chalk review (not as good as i thought)

So my friend grabbed me a few cubes from the expo, got to try it out the last 2 nights. I dont like it! at all!

first complaint:

I found it worked well if my tip was scuffed properly, it would stay on my tip for quite sometime, BUT if my tip was glazed at all, which it seemed to glaze pretty quickly, then the 1.21 wouldnt stay on very well at all and i'd miscue after not long. I would rather chalk every few shots with masters, rather than chalk and scuff every few games with kamui.

second complaint

I dont know if I'm just so used to masters, but I was not a fan of the way 1.21 applied on my tip, it didnt seem to apply very well or evenly at all. I tried the regular chalking method of swiping the tip and I also tried turning the tip in the chalk like others have suggested when using kamui. 1.21 did NOT apply well at all.

OVERALL:

Not very happy, I would rather use masters which applies 10x better and I've realized I enjoy chalking in between shots to give me a bit of time to think, it's def built into my PSR. I guess theres a reason I see most pro's NOT using Kamui chalk. I guess cuz its not all its hyped up to be, for ME atleast. I see other people have had way better experience with it, maybe I'll have to try .98

concluding, I'm selling my 1.21 brand new in package still sealed (i bought 2 of them) or somebody would like to trade me their unopened .98 for my 1.21, send me a pm:cool:

The 1.21 is meant to be applied before each shot. The other version is meant to be applied once ever game or so. I tried the 1.21 and it is okay, but not as good as the original.

I've tried the kamui .98 briefly and was not impressed either. BUT, the piece I used was someone else's, and his particular piece was worn flat. I believe this contributed to the application error. When I personally start a brand new piece of chalk I purposely drill it in order to make the divot deeper, and afterward I start brushing normally. Perhaps the divots in your kamui vs your master chalk are different and don't contribute to good chalk coverage.

Ive been using the original .98 for a couple days and it works as advertised. Im getting great full table draw etc. and I hardly ever chalk. My hands are cleaner and its nice not chalking all the time. Im a happy customer. Im glad I finally ordered some. Stuff works.

I advise to use normal chalk and save you the headache.. But!!! A lot of people buy into absolute shite and pay a huge amount for it. Sorry bud but trying chalking after ever shot with a well care for tip. Cheap and the best

Thanks for the review.
Good information shared here.
I wounder if others will have the same experience with this chalk.

it seems that the .98 is better than the 1.21

but I dont really feel like shelling out another 30$ on the chance that I MIGHT like the chalk.

there must be a reason that majority of the pro's arent really using Kamui. interesting to say the least.

The thing that I didn't see at the expo was someone in the kamui booth with a sample piece of chalk letting people chalk up and give it a whirl before dropping 30.00 on a cube. That would've made sense to me but then again I'm not a vendor trying to push a product. If I can't try it.......I'll pass.

I shot yesterday with a good friend who is also a master instructor. He was given a cube of Kamui chalk as a present and used it for the first time yesterday. He liked the chalk but missed the pre shot routine of taking the chalk out of his pocket and chalking as he looked over the table. He had developed that routine over the last 30 years. I use Blue Diamond and like it just fine.

I've had complete different results from the OP..

I don't scuff my tip more than once every couple of months and I play a LOT! I find the K 1.21 to be just fine. I still only chalk once or twice per game, not out of necessity but just makes me feel better.

I don't need it to play well but I do find it to be a very good product. I've had a cube for over a month as I got it directly from John Bertone but I've got nothing negative to say about the stuff.

It can be a little messy but that can be the case with any chalk. I don't have any issues with it on the table or CB, just my hands if I don't pay close attention when applying it.. YMMV
