Kamui Black Soft vs Ultraskin soft tips

I am told that the Kamui Black Soft and Ultraskin soft tips are both great tips.

A friend of mine (who has used probably every type and every brand of tip on the market, and who is also a very strong and solid A speed player) says that the Kamui Black soft is by far the best tip that he has ever used, but he says that the Ultraskin soft is also a very good tip.

I am thinking that it will cost $20 to get an Ultraskin soft installed on my cue, and at least $30 (and maybe more like $40, but not sure) to get a Kamui black soft installed on my cue.

I would like opinions on if it is really worth the extra $10 or $20 to get the Kamui black (vs the Ultraskin)?

Will the Kamui black hit that much better then the Ultraskin, and provide me with much more confidence in my game, and are the 2 tips that much different in quality?

I am just very curious to hear more opinions about this, and maybe opinions on other tips that you think are better then the 2 that I mentioned?

Thanks.

Its all personal preference, I know a few pro's that will only play with a LePro tip .

Justin. It's not that I care about 10 or 20 either way.

One way of doing just so you know for the future is, put on a kamui soft. When that wears out, put on an Ultra Skin.

You will realize in this case, that you don't need to spend that extra on a Kamui to get the same in an Ultra skin.

The one thing that I dislike re Kamui soft tips is that they don't last as long as others.

Your Ultra will hold its shape much longer and you won't have to fuss with it as much.

Constantly scuffing the kamuis. They tend to glaze, at least for me they do.

As Mike said, personal preference. You have to try a lot of tips before you find a couple or three that suit you better than the others.

But, try the Ultra. You won't be disappointed. By a long shot, Kamui is not the flavor of the year any longer, so don't be afraid to reach out and try a few others.

Thanks Tony.

I pretty much install Ultra Skin exclusively at this point. Altho I do try to stock most of the other popular stand ins like Moori, Talisman, Everest etc. Plus Dawgs Duds.

One of the things that I like to do is, suggest an Ultra Skin. I give people $5 off for their first Skin. I also tell them that if they are not happy with it, I will refund their money against any other tip that I stock.

Not once have I had a person ask for a different tip. I do get a lot of thank yous and also their Buddies asking me for the same tip that their friend just got.

Absolutely a true story. When you have a good thing going and people are happy, why change it, right.

Depends on your level of play and what you play for. I can tell you a Kamui soft clear is the most perfect tip I have ever used. The action it puts on the cueball. The feel it transmits. I'd spend 100 on it.

I tried about seven different tips before settling on the Ultra Skin. I find that all soft tips get harder over time. I don' need to scuff my Ultra Skin. As long as I chalk up I don't miscue.

What is a Kamui Soft Clear?

my experience

A while ago I put a Kamui Black M vs Ulraskin M on my Jack Madden... just to see the difference. (I know he wants the difference between Softs, not mediums) My experience was they are VERY close in tips. It's hard to describe, but my sense is the Kamui had slightly more 'rebound' in the tip... I don't know what other word to describe it with.

They were HUGELY close.

For my $$$ I'd go the ultraskin route...

U S open

If SVB can win 3 opens with a cue tech
does the tip really matter? So much for the custom
cue world. Seriously as for different tips it's personal
preference, I'm very happy using the ULTRA SKIN n I've
tried them all . Good luck w your experiment n let us know
your thoughts. Gary

Hey, you made the statement you get what you pay for in regards to tips, I took it to the next level.

So back to tips Alex P and Efren play with elk masters, what is that about a 2 dollar tip? Is a 25 dollar Kamui better in their eyes?

As far as cues have you seen Ralph's custom Joss he plays with? I suspect that cue is over 3500 dollars.

If you want to say, you get what you pay for, you best expect to be challenged on it. Now back over the pond with you!

Where are the expensive and time consuming decorations on a cube of chalk, and who are the pros playing with 3.5k cues?

Now, off to the long grass you go.

I have played a lot with both ultraskin soft and kamui clear black soft. My vote is for the kamui.

If you think anything forward of the forearm of SVB's Cuetec is off the shelf, you are mistaken.

Back to the topic. I used to play with Kamui SS which is a great tip. I tried the UltraSkin VS about a year ago and have never looked back. I cannot tell the difference and wouldn't be surprised if they are the same tip with different stampings. Give the UltraSkin a try. I think you'll like it.

I suspect this too - i can't imagine there are many different tip factories about and all products have layered pricing structures. Maybe the only difference between the premium brands and the cheaper ones is quality control?

Hard to believe

Rexus are you absolutely positively 100%
sure that cue tech cue that SVB uses isn't
off the shelf  ? I just find that impossible to believe
in the pool world someone would misrepresent themselves
or falsely advertise ,I'm shocked. . Anyway thanks for clarifying
the obvious to those of us that HAVE NO CLUE .
Happy New Year . Gary

I use Kamui Black Softs on all seven of my players, and have no desire to change. I tried an UltraSkin a while back, and there was no comparison, IMO.

If you've never tried the KBS, I'd urge you to give it a go. Then, see if you want to bother trying anything else.

i cant really comment a lot about the soft tips mentioned since i use medium to hard tips. i can only comment on kamui black's consistency. i think it stays in shape well and works really good with masters, triangle, ntc or blue diamond chalk. my player has 2 shafts: one has kamui black med that i installed just recently and the other has a pressed emerald tip (the tip i've been using for years now). the kamui plays great - easier to draw or put english on CB. although i like the "ping" sound of harder tips more, so i might try a kamui black hard next time.
