Kamui Black Soft vs Ultraskin soft tips

I'm not a fan of Kamui. I know a lot here swear by them but I played with 2 different softs and they glazed super fast for me. To each their own.

I suspect this too - i can't imagine there are many different tip factories about and all products have layered pricing structures. Maybe the only difference between the premium brands and the cheaper ones is quality control?

Actually Kamui and Moori make their own tips. I have heard G2 does as well.. There are a cpl of companies in China and Taiwan that make 90% of the others but will also make you Kamui or Moori tips if you want to order =D

Back to the topic. I used to play with Kamui SS which is a great tip. I tried the UltraSkin VS about a year ago and have never looked back. I cannot tell the difference and wouldn't be surprised if they are the same tip with different stampings. Give the UltraSkin a try. I think you'll like it.

I don't know, its been a few years since I came out with the UltraSkins and I think my quality control is spot on. My feedback both here and on Ebay is 100%. Not that my tips are for everyone but the ones who like them seem to keep buying.

I tried a Kamui soft and it was too hard for a soft tip (for me) and it glazed over more then any other tip I had tried. I went to the SS and it played better but still glazed a lot.

I went to the Ultraskin and never looked back. I've put on 5 Ultraskins for various people and they all liked them.

Kamui's aren't bad tips. Generally no tip is "bad". You just need to put in some table time with them and see what isn't going to give you something to complain about :) and go with that.

Thanks Tony.

I pretty much install Ultra Skin exclusively at this point. Altho I do try to stock most of the other popular stand ins like Moori, Talisman, Everest etc. Plus Dawgs Duds.

One of the things that I like to do is, suggest an Ultra Skin. I give people $5 off for their first Skin. I also tell them that if they are not happy with it, I will refund their money against any other tip that I stock.

Not once have I had a person ask for a different tip. I do get a lot of thank yous and also their Buddies asking me for the same tip that their friend just got.

Absolutely a true story. When you have a good thing going and people are happy, why change it, right.
So I have an Ultraskin from like 8 years ago or sitting around. Do they get dry rotted or anything from just sitting around. New not on shaft yet?

Justin. It's not that I care about 10 or 20 either way.

One way of doing just so you know for the future is, put on a kamui soft. When that wears out, put on an Ultra Skin.

You will realize in this case, that you don't need to spend that extra on a Kamui to get the same in an Ultra skin.

The one thing that I dislike re Kamui soft tips is that they don't last as long as others.

Your Ultra will hold its shape much longer and you won't have to fuss with it as much.

Constantly scuffing the kamuis. They tend to glaze, at least for me they do.

As Mike said, personal preference. You have to try a lot of tips before you find a couple or three that suit you better than the others.

But, try the Ultra. You won't be disappointed. By a long shot, Kamui is not the flavor of the year any longer, so don't be afraid to reach out and try a few others.
I have played with a Kamui medium tip but not a Kamui soft. I have on a soft ultra skin now. I noticed it really "grabs" the cue ball. My cueball ocassionally jumps sideways when hitting it with extreme side.

I've used 20-year-old tips without a problem. Those were solid tips, though.
