Kamui Tips Q/A

I've been seeing/hearing a lot of misconceptions about Kamui tips going around and I figure this is the best place to help clear things up or get player feedback! I am well connected to Kamui US and Kamui Japan. While I am of course a little biased, I am open to hearing criticism while also shining light on things like "tip picking and using abrasive chalk on your kamui tip will render it almost useless!" Maybe you want to know what the heck an Athlete tip is! My time is limited, but I will answer as I am available. Any question I don't know the answer to I may ask Japan directly. Please be respectful and I hope this will be helpful to all of you!

I've been playing with a G2 med tip on my shooting cue , what do you have in your line up that is comparable .

So far I've never had problems with the tips mushrooming or anything like that .
I look forward to reading your thoughts .
 
I haven't personally played with a G2, so I'm unsure of the difference in feel. Best I can do is give you the map. If you want to play with more spin with less effort go for a Kamui black(Clear or Standard). If you're strictly looking for precision, go for the Original or Clear Original. If you play with a carbon fiber, I suggest playing with an Athlete tip. I tend to usher people towards medium/soft, but it sounds like you want something closer to M/H. I hope this helps!
 
In all honesty id probably lean towards the Kamui black as for my cues shafts im a hard rock maple guy I tried a carbon fiber shaft but at the time I just couldn't get used to it .

Chances are that I'll try another carbon fiber shaft again at some point but it will be in a few years .
 
I switched from Kamui Clear Black tips because they glazed quite often in my experience. I essentially had to scuff my tip every time I played. My chalk is not very abrasive (Kamui Roku) and I don't have the same problem with other tips of the same hardness (medium). I tried at least 2 or 3 different Kamuis before switching.

You will find there are many folks here that have a similar problem. I'm certain that Kamui has heard this criticism. Have they done anything to combat the issue?
 
I am interested to hear your opinion on the bulletproof synthetic tips vs a Kamui (Clear Black Medium in my case), These are my 2 favorite tips Thanks

I used the Black Super Soft on a couple of shafts and then cut them off and replaced them.

Worst glazing tips ever.
 
Kamui used to be great, I don't know what changed but they aren't anymore.
I think that there are better options out these and some are cheaper.
Sorry, I'm off the Kamui wagon.
 
I recently had a Kamui Athlete medium installed on a carbon fiber shaft and so far I really like it. But what is the difference between Athlete, Black, Original etc.?
 
I used Kamui Black softs for 15 years. I think i replaced it 2-3 times over that period. Switched to hard 2 years ago. Tip picks are the way to go as long as you aren't tearing up the tip with it. I switched to HOW Titans this year, but treat them the same: Willard's tool to retain shape, then a tip pick to add just a bit of texture. I do that every few *weeks*. It was a bit more with the Kamui hard, they glazed a little quicker than the Titan.
