Aha so it seems they might be of some use afterall. The only downside to that wrap is your opponent, if he's male, would almost certainly try and kick your cue when you're not looking.

Dawg, if you could provide pics of the elephant ear and kangaroo on a stick that might help the OP decide.

Before everyone gets on their high horse about the various hides, you need to look at the circumstances.

I talked to a case maker and the elephant ears that they use come from animals that are diseased and a danger to the rest of their herd. It is highly regulated and the penalty for killing a healthy animal is severe. Kangaroo's are eaten in various parts of the world so I am sure their hides are plentiful and would just go to waste if it wasn't used for another purpose. I don't think most people here have a problem with using cow hides.

To answer the original question, I have never held a cue with a kangaroo wrap, but elephant ear sounds like what you are looking for. I would also suggest trying a stacked leather wrap as this also sounds like something that would fit your needs.

I always played with a linen wrap and my current cue has elephant ear; I like it very much. I have not tried a kangaroo wrap though.

I really appreciate all the feedback!

I'm leaning towards the elephant ear, has a really pretty grain pattern.

Hello all,

I have mostly played with wrapless cues in the past. My new Padgett has a linen wrap on it and is way too slippery for my taste. I would like to go with a leather wrap. I want to make sure its nice and grippy/tacky. Soft and supple would be a bonus.

I was thinking of going with either kangaroo or elephant ear wrap. How do these two compare in terms of texture and feel? Hard like plastic or soft and cushy? How about durability, do they discolor and/or change hardness throughout its life?

Any comments are greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Asgar
My favorite leather wrap for a cue is kangaroo. It's supple but strong. I find elephant ear too rough.

Hey Ralf, that is a Duck Call, made by Bill McDaniel years ago. Pretty neat, huh?
