Kansas City Pool Scene???

Pletho,
You need to go re-up your membership so you can remember the correct fee. :)

Some incorrect info on this thread.

Just, finally purchased my first annual membership last Saturday. Been mooching off my son's membership, and never had a problem getting in to play a little. Cost is $10/year. The membership can be and is purchased at the front desk and is immediately effective.

Shooters went private some years back to circumvent the county no smoking ordinance. Wish I could go there and shoot in a smoke-free environment, but I suspect that Dan thought he would lose too much business, so he went this route. I've played a little pool in a lot of pool halls from Florida to Vancouver, BC and this is still one of my favorite places to play. You walk through the door and you know you're in a poolhall, not some sports bar with pool tables. Its clean, the tables, balls, equipment is well kept and the waitstaff are friendly and prompt. What more can you ask for.

I second the above. It was not an issue for me to pay the 10 dollar fee and start playing when I went in.

Somebody needs to educate the front desk man then, because he doesn't know that he can sell memberships.

I was there a few months back and asked how I could become a member. I would have gladly paid the $10 even though I was only going to be there that night, and in fact asked if I could apply and pay for a membership with him. He told me that you could not get a membership directly through Shooters, it had to be through some local government office, and that it took about 10 days to receive.

I even asked if there were anything I could do to gain admittance for the evening, no matter how unreasonable it might be. He said unless you were the guest of a member there was ZERO chance you could gain admittance that day under any circumstance whatsoever, you would have to apply for the membership and wait 10 days. I forgot the info on where he said to apply (or maybe he wasn't even sure I can't recall now) since I was only in town that night and it was of no use to me.

This guy didn't seem the most knowledgeable about things to me, but he was absolutely positive about not being able to get a membership same day, and the female owner was there so if he had any doubts in his own mind I presume he would have asked her.
