Karella and Tascarella

I have Tascarella cues set in my favorites for Ebay. When a Karella cue is being sold I get notified as it is a Tascarella. In one discription it said that Karella cues are made in honor of Pete Tascarella. Another says that Pete may have some involvement in making this line of cues.

Is there any connection or is it just some sellers trying to get buyers to their site by using the key word "Tascarella"?

I am not an expert on Tascarella or Karella, but it seems obvious to me that the seller(s) are making an attempt at drawing more attention by using each name as a keyword.

"Made in honor of", to me, is another way of saying "I copied his design".

The other saying "Pete may have some involvement~~~~" does not ring right to me. Either he did, or did not.

Karella cues are made in Thailand and imported by Competition Sports.

The same company makes Hercules, Balabushka, Helmstetter and Adams.

Here is a recent link. I am not the seller and am not trying to draw attention to the link. If it is BS I will report it to Ebay as a scam of using keywords. Sometimes it helps but I think most of the time EBay doesn't care.

I have virtually no experience on ebay as a seller so please do not take my advice as being "Gospel", but I doubt seriously if ebay will do anything about it concerning keywords. Keywords are a form of advertising (if you will), to bring more traffic to the specific auction. Actually, they can be a good thing. Without them ebay searches would not produce much. It just happens that some sellers saturate the data base to the point that many searches are not relative to what we are looking for.

Going only from memory, I think what he said was "I believe Tascarella~~~~". If in fact that is what he does believe, he is not deceiving anyone, he is just stating his belief. No wrong doing in that (well, you know what I mean).

Jeff seems to have a pretty good knowledge of the maker. Perhaps he can guide you better than I. Good luck if you bid, and be careful.

A lot of times the sellers will put in the title: Brand of Cue and then "Not Schon, Joss, Mottey, Scruggs, Gilbert, etc

They will do this to get more attention to their auction.

EBay has a page where you can report these violations.

As stated a lot of times it has nothing to do with what you are searching for.

I do not think the info in your reply is 100% correct. Richard Helmstetter's cue company (that has always been located in Japan, I think) made the Adam, Helmstetter, and Balabushka line of cues (which were all very high quality cues, and should not be compared with the much cheaper quality cues from Thailand or China for example).

By the way, I am from Carbondale. Interesting to see someone on here that is from my home town. Did you ever play at Power Players? That was the pool room that I hung out at, up until they sadly closed down in around 2,000 (or maybe it was 99). I really miss that place. Great memories from my original home town pool hall.

You do realize the posts you're responding to are 11 years old. Brian.

Why should that matter? I was researching Karella cues, and there are not too many posts about them (so that is why I so easily found this thread).

Karella cues are cheap junk. Don't waste your time. Tascarella cues are the cream of the crop.

Well, I only have $150 to $200 to spend on a cue. What are my best options for that price range? These are nice looking, but I assume very low quality (but they are 50% off original retail price, with free shipping, and for only $15, I get is a 16 inch pro taper put on the shaft).

I have the Mueller's catalog ,they are $175. So at $100 close out why not go for it?

Yes there is a connection. Pete Tascarella used to do the repair work for Adam cues. He also designed the first line of Karella cues.Karella is a combination of names I think some one from Competion sports first name maybe the C.E.O? and Pete Tascarella's last name thus" Karella" the first ones were made in japan and were awesome. they are not all the same but they are all pretty nice and very decent for the price

Don Spetkar - former General Manager at Competition Sports. But the first Karellas were made for Don and Pete by Ernie Chen (Falcon Cues) not in Japan.

Pete and Don separated themselves from Karella Cue immediately once production started (lower quality than the initial samples). Spektar returned to the Karella name about a decade later. Pete did not.
