Karomi Tips...RESULTS>>>

<<<RESULTS BELOW>>>Anyone familiar with Karomi tips? I've heard some good things from a couple people around town but decided to come here for some more opinions. Unfortunately, there isn't too much info about them on the forum. Thanks for any help.

I haven't heard of Karomi...you might be thinking of Kamui tips. They seem to be well regarded but I haven't played with one.
 
Kamui's are great! I put one on my cue about 2 months ago and I couldnt be happier. Holds chalk VERY well and also holds it shape with no mushrooming as of yet.
 
Karomi's are different from Kamui's. Karomi has 16 layers as opposed to 10 on the Kamui. Just wondering if anyone has tried them and if so, how are they?
 
Try some and tell us.

The best way to find out if they are good, is give them a shot.

Apparently they are layered pigskin and a 60% less than Kamui or Moori tips. Be daring, my man, and go out and take the plunge so you can be of service to your fellow Azers and report back to us in a few weeks.

If I needed tips replaced, I would reserve one shaft just for one Karomi and another similar for Kamui and do them both and then report back the differences I found. But.....I just put Mooris and Kamuis on everything I own to see the difference between them. That was a much bigger plunge for numerous shafts.

I feel that Kamuis Hard is harder than Moori Quick (hard) and still maintains excellent control unless you have a crappy stroke like me and send cue balls sailing at other players once in a while with a lousy draw stroke. Full table draws are hit and miss with me depending on the fear/confidence factor I am playing with. If you fear it, it will fail.
 
Ya know, I'll probably just do that...I'm gonna try and get one put on this weekend and see what happens :)
 
Alrighty...well I finally managed to get a Karomi tip installed and played with it for about 3 hours this past Thursday. From what I've experienced in the 3hrs of play (I know, that's a long time, but hey :) ) I like it. I got a med hard installed for $15 at my local cue repair guy, had him shave off about 5 of the 16 layers (cuz I don't like my tip to be longer than my ferrule :D ). It's got a great hit and feel to it. Having played with a Moori Med for the past 2 years or so, I've got to say I like the Karomi better. Better feel, more spin, more control, and not as expensive. After a 2hr playing session and a 1hr masse practice, the tip had no mushrooming and still had it's original shape. I am so far, very impressed with this tip. I know 3hrs probably isn't long enough to draw some conclusive data, but that's what I've got for now. Hope this helps someone out there looking for a new tip. Thanks ,Matt, for the report back. Now that is what I think this forum is all about. Sharing experience to help others. I know the Karomis are quite a savings and can be bought on FleaBay at Cowboy Billiards, so I might pick a couple up to try out in the future.

Sorry I did not see this thread sooner, or I would have responded. I have used a Karomi for a few years. Love it. Seldom have to replace it, compared to many of the others. Little or no mushrooming, and great control on the cue ball. I doubt I'll change to any other tip for a long time to come.
