Katrina affecting gas prices...

Some links to search for lower gas prices...

On the 11 o'clock news last night they were showing some scumbag gas station owners that were charging as high as $7 a gallon!!! Some others were at $5 and $6.

Sonny Perdue had a news conference and said that anybody caught gouging would be prosecuted severely. I hope so...this if for the birds!

For my fellow Georgians: Atlanta

To look for cheap gas in your city, try typing:
http://(yourcity)gasprices.com

For example, Boston would be http://bostongasprices.com
New Jersey: http://newjerseygasprices.com
Columbus, Ohio: http://columbusgasprices.com

et cetera...
Holy crap!! gas skyrocketed!! gas stations in gwinnett are up to 5-7$ a gallon! The Bp stations had somewhere around 2.70 but all there gas has been sold empty. It's because of all this panic! Im sure that the prices will fall back down to 2.60 in the next week.
The lines at the stations are also a 45 minute wait! Its BS.

Yes, reports have indicated that this is expected to be a temporary situation until the refineries in the hurricane-affected area can come back online.

I remember something about refineries making 900%+ profit (not b/c of katrina). At $7 a gallon, I guess the roadplayers are may have to start biking it

IMO, It's the car manufacturers faults! Most of those in high positions in toyota.. ford.. chevy.. all of them own stocks in the gas industry. They get the real money from the gas not the cars. If they wanted Cars can really get 100-130 MILES to the Gallon!! they're keeping reality away from us to make money! If car companies would just make the cars that get 100 miles to the gallon the United States Oil Crisis would go away.

Also for those interested, Your diesel cars can be converted to run off vege oil, that you can get for free from restaraunts. Which means, no more paying for gas! For more information do a search or visit the link

dont blame the car manufacturers its the governments fault. If congress would pass a law mandating that all cars be built to operate at 80 miles per gallon and appropriates funding for public transportation initiatives in every state but no they spend money to make weapons that could kill the world over 800 times over

I agree this sucks, but we did it to ourselves. With everyone needing a Hummer or Escalade that gets 12 mpg and there is only one person in the car. What else did we expect we use more oil than the other top ten oil using countries COMBINED. My boat has a V8 and uses a ton of gas but it's what I wanted and now I have to pay for it. We could be in Europe and pay $6/liter every day.

Bob we all know it is profiteering and your absolutely right these prices are here to stay.

I'd be a 140 mile a day commuter if I had bought this condo in NH. Now I'm a 6 mile a day commuter and a 140 mile weekend commuter. I'm probably saving enough to pay for this condo or at least the condo fee and taxes.

Thats true.. when the government tells them the minimum is 25 miles per gallon they make it EXACTLY 25, not even 25.2 but 25... This damn president... giving 80 billion dollars to Iraq.... this guy is throwing our money away like he wipes his ass with it!

Gas prices ...

I worked for a manufacturer of aircraft parts that had an inventor friend.
This friend, back in mid 70's had a carburator invention that improved gas
mileage to 60-70 miles per gallon in vehicles. The big car manufacturers
jumped on him, not to manufacture the invention, but to pay him off, so
the invention would NOT BE USED.

Car magazines had been showing how more powerful engines were suppose
to be in '07 models. I bet they have turned that around to hybrid engines
now ...

I also wonder how gas prices will affect player's abilities to enter tournaments
around the country, from amateur to pro? Some players are pretty tight on
expenses when they go play somewhere in a tournament.

you got that right

Damn I thought $3 per gallon was alot, I would go postal having to pay 5, 6 or 7......
The only reason prices were so high is that rumors and lies spread about us running out of gas. Then when everyone ran into a panic, gas stations jacked their prices up to make huge profits. Now the governor says that prices cant go any higher, and today gas was back down to $2.73.
Can't wait for the refineries to regain power.

What would really screw us over, is if the president goes on nation crisis news and states that the U.S. has ran out of gas. Everyone would be scared shitless.

Then manufacturers and shell gas would start rolling out nitrogen powered cars.... then nuclear powered cars.... I wouldn't be surprised if they started making water powered cars by then end of the 2030's.

So called 'Price Gouging' is how the free market works.

Attempts to stop it simply result in shortages and long queues. Not to mention the detrimental effect this has on taking away incentives from the suppliers and distributors to increase supply and reduce costs.

That Bush is squeeling about gouging is more proof that the conservative movement has been taken over by socialist/trotskyites. Government can't fix these things, they just make it worse. We've seen what happens when governments start fixing price limits on food....mass starvation.

Here's one article to explain the myths of price gouging:

Kudos to those informed consumers

I say let the free market do its thing. I for one have started looking at hybrid vehicles. My SUV is simply becoing to expensive to drive. Thats how the free market works, and when more people experience this crunch on their wallets they will start seeking alternate methods of transportation and more efficient vehicles. The high prices will be the catalyst to moving the consumer base to cars that get better mileage, or turn to public transportation. Price controls and government regulation will only serve to further socialize our great nation. People have a tendancy to forget that the CONSUMER makes the decisions in free market economies, and consumers most certainly affect change by their purchasing decisions. If no one bought gas, and demand was significantly less, then companies would have to drop their prices to lure consumers back to the pumps, but as long as everyone is willing to go on paying more and more for their gas, while the supply does not increase, then the oil companies will continue to charge more and more and increase their profits. Let us not rely more and more on the government to take care of these issues for us. Each and every one of us holds the purse strings that make our economy run, and when the people realize that their spending habits are what fuel our economy and product prices, then we will hear less and less about government controls.
