KC weather...!!

It is coming down in Maryland now. More snow than all of last winter combined in pretty sure lol.

Update on St. Louis... We are Slammed. There's got to be a foot of snow on top of an inch of ice in the cities just west of St. Louis, ours being one. Everything is buried!! This reminds me of 72, 73. Anybody remember that one?? Snow chains and all.

So, I hope all the folks up there have stoves/fireplaces for when the power goes out. Down here after a hurricane, we sweat but it is not a life and death thing. A week without power in blizzard conditions is concerning. What do the poor folks do? Of course, we know the "rich" folks up north done gone to Florida,

when i was a kid we went about a wk with no juice. lucky we had old school gas floor furnaces to stay warm.

Finally stopped here about 3 this morning. TV says we got about 6 inches of snow on top of the ice. A friend said “ hell we used to walk to school in worse than this”. But we weren’t in our 60’s then.

We had the floor furnaces with not a stitch of insulation in our houses. Those old floor furnaces could really crank out the BTUs. The dogs slept all around them under the house. We actually had icicles back then but not in 60 years.

More and more down here they put in subdivisions with no natural gas. In rural areas you see propane tanks but not in town. Natural gas should be required. If nothing else, you can adapt your generator to run on it and avoid chasing gas and hauling gas cans after hurricanes. (Same for propane.)

Ya'll stay warm and safe.

Just got in from "shoveling" snow. My Wife bought me a battery powered snow shovel for Christmas. The freaking thing actually works amazingly well. I will never doubt her again! We are currently under a level 3 snow emergency here. Hopefully you are all warm and safe. I'm going to get started on a batch of Chili soup.
🙂

Tis is what it looks like on the western side of dc today...

How stupid do you have to be to try to drive in such snow and ice? Stay home, or get off the road, and live -- safe and warm.
Apparently I am very stupid driving on snowy icy roads for several months every year ! Of course I live in one of these :

KIDDING, our 1300 sq ft house has a big natural gas furnace that keeps us toasty warm and SaskEnergy swimming in cash. The picture above is from a local charity light show, as are these below (note the snow covered ice roads we are stupidly driving on).

Dave <-- agrees with the 'safe and warm' sentiment and thankful for a good heater in the Ranger

PS please be careful dealing with all that snow, our chiropractors do booming business after the storms. I use a small snowblower and lots of retired-time to clean up the mess.

I have a decent size driveway and shoveled half.

I am half-sore today!

I'm in Caseyville. Driveway slopes downward, combine that with the drifting snow and what the municipal snowplow threw on top of it, I've got it piled as high as my mailbox. Snow shovel frame broke, ended up doing the last of it with a scoop shovel. Woke up this morning with a sore shoulder, can hardly lift my arm....just in time for DCC....lol

my main house has a one mile long driveway to plow.
ive driven on ice and snow all my life and if you go the correct speed for your vehicle it is almost a non event.

i made my best scores from very good golfers. as i know within a couple strokes of what they are going to shoot. that gives them no chance.
How many strokes were they giving you? How did you know what they were going to shoot?

Where i live in Hamilton Ontario 40 min. from Buffalo we get our share of snow nothing serious yet but it's coooold - 11F. tonight.
