I'm not sure what the thing is called (hence the odd subject of this thread), but I'm talking about the rod or whatever you see with whiffle golf balls or whatever on it that players use to keep track of the score.
I'd like to build one for my room. The best picture for talking about this is here: http://iacas.org/asm/room/28.jpg
I'd likely put it over the center of the table and in the flat part of the ceiling. Ideally I'd like to support both two- and three-player scoring as me and two friends have already established a weekly three-person "pool night." We mix up games and play rotation, a modified pill game we like, some three-person 14.1, etc.
I'd like it to be classy (i.e. no bailing wire with wiffle golf balls hanging on it), but obviously I'd rather not spend a bajillion dollars, either.
I think something like this might work:
|--000000000--*--000000000--*---000000000--|
Where 0 is a scoring ball, * is a separator, - the rod, and | simply where the ends are. Then again, everyone would have to understand that scoring was done by moving balls "towards the door" (or the window) and stick to that...
So I guess there are a few questions here. First, is there a way to do a three- (or maybe even a four-) person scoring system that is foolproof? Aside from having two two-person rods, that is (which is my fall-back plan).
And second, what materials might I use to do this? We have craft stores, Lowe's/Home Depot, and the normal stores around here in Erie, of course.
Thoughts, ideas, etc. are appreciated. Thanks in advance.
