Kid Delicious Film

I asked him about it at SBE last week. He still said it is on the table. Tom Hanks / Lion's Gate is looking at it. Jack Black is a potential lead (that would be a great match). This was also mentioned on Kid D's Dateline appearance.

Hope it happens, I love the book -- actually, the audiobook to be exact. I've listened to it twice. The narrator does a great job relaying the story (can't recall his name).

I bumped into Danny in the men's room at the SBE of all places. We started chatting and I asked him about the movie. He then goes into a stall to drop a deuce and wants to continue the conversation. Yikes! It was not the cleanest place in the world and I had to leave, but he was a REALLY nice person and I hope the movie comes out soon. It was a very entertaining book.

They stopped pursuing the Kid Delicious movie premise. Instead they are working on a Travis Trotter movie.

oh god.. jack Black will kill his image........whatever one he claims to have.......

Honestly. I think Danny is a fine player......But his hype seems a little overrated......

But please...... almost anyone but Jack Black!!!!

NOW.. remake the hustler and have Danny play as Fatty ;)

Actually Keanu Reeves is putting on weight as we speak for the role...

I don't know that he's over-rated -- after all, he hasn't really won much in quite a while. Don't people regard him more as a great hustler, as opposed to a great player? The story in the book about his time at Chicago Billiards, then setting out on the road, is quite engrossing.

He was out pretty quick in SBE (won one match, then lost the next two, I believe).

I have yet to read Danny's book.......It is on my to get list........

as I said I know he is a great player..............but a movie about him??

How bout a movie bout Mosconi.......Efren? hell even Strickland ......

I'd watch 'em all! :) Post back when you read (or listen to) the book... Curious if you'd agree it would make an awesome pool movie!

Well i can pretty much yes it would be a good movie without even reading the book.......

I reckon my real beef with it all is the character choice to play Danny........Jack Black.........I cannot see him in a serious role ever........I jsut cannot agree with Black playing as Danny......

But we shall see I reckon.....

Not to be a downer here, but like was mentioned in the thread on this two weeks ago, the Kid Delicious script, written by Jon Wertheim, has only been optioned by Liions Gate. They have shown no interest in producing the movie...regardless of what Danny would like to believe. Movie companies option scripts all the time, and then shelve them for various reasons. Pool Hall Junkies was shelved for 12 years before it finally got made (and that was at the expense of the person who wrote and starred in it)...and look how badly it turned out. It flopped in early distribution, and never made it past the first 3 weeks in only 6 theatres nationwide! It's done somewhat better as a video rental, but hasn't made money for the producers.

Danny is a fantastic player...but read his book. I have known Danny for years and I have never, ever seen him be anything but gracious and genuine. That is a rare thing to say about someone who made their living hustling around the country much less anyone for that matter. He is one of the most unique and special people I have ever met. When you consider how candor he has been about his personal demons and struggles...he is a strong soul and a dear heart. Do I gush? Not really...just speakin' it plain and simple. His story would make a great movie and I think Lion's Gate amd Tom Hanks could do him justice.

How about Samuel L Jackson? :D

They could call it Snakes on a ... nevermind lol

If I only had a dollar for every book and/or script that got optioned and shelved...

Nothing's happening and its doubtful that anything's going to happen. Its not like LGF has a significant amount of money tied up in the option and the book isn't exactly breaking sales records.

Right, fair to say that the movie actually coming to "a theater near you" is a long shot.

Danny did mention that Wortheim's original script was rejected.

I don't think its any kind of production mode but I wouldn't call it dead yet.

To those who think Danny just slashed on the scene, he just beat Thorsten Holmann in the last event and is starting to play good again. He was beating almost everyone for the $$ and was beating the worlds best in tournements before he got sick.

Anyone who has met Danny knows what a good guy he is, all this weight talk is bullshit. Great guy, more personality than almost anyone on tour and a monster on the table when he playing the way he's capable of. Go watch some Mizerak or Buddy Hall matches if you think his weight means anything at pool. He won hundred of thousand of dollars putting his talent on the line, how many players in the world can say that?

Before SVB started tearing it up, Danny was as hot as anyone and I don't think its anywhere near over for him. He's still young and has plenty of talent. I don't know if his movie will ever get made but I hope it does, who else has more personality in the game than the Kid?

We should all send letters to Oprah's book club to try and get his book on it, guaranteed best seller,Danny would make some money and we would probalbly see a movie right Quick.:D :D :D

Not only was Danny a very solid road player, he is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. He hung out with me and Corvette and some of our friends while his buddy (cant remember his name....little guy we called "rib") played one of the locals. I wish Danny success in his movie venture and his career.
