Lions Gate Films Developing Kid Delicious Movie

Lions Gate Films has made a development deal for a feature film to be loosely based on the life of Danny "Kid Delicious" Basavich. Basavich is currently ranked No. 1 on the Billiards Digest Power Index. The deal was announced May 9 by Peter Block, Lions Gate President of Acquisitions and Co-Productions and Michael Paseornek, President of Production and Development.

The deal includes right to the recent Sports Illustrated article "The Amazing Adventures of Kid Delicious and Bristol Bob," written by L. Jon Wertheim, in addition to a life-rights and consulting agreement with Basavich and his former road partner "Bristol" Bob Begey. The first draft of the screenplay will be written by Wertheim, who is also writing a book based on Basavich, to be published by Houghton Mifflin publishers.

"Kid Delicious is a true American success story, and we are thrilled to be developing a film based on his incredible journey from being one of the most creative and successful pool hustlers to being the top-ranked professional billiards player in the country," Block said. Good for him and I wish him success!

He'd have to gain 200 pounds.

well,,,they can use movie magic:):):) or that fat guy on SNL....but if they want to movie to sell, they'll have to use artistic license.

I think John Goodman would make a good Danny Basavich, he's a hell of an actor and has the proper build too.

I like that actor, but what does he have to do with the Kid Delicious movie? Has he been cast to play a role in this movie?

I hope this movie rings true, much like "Rounders" did with poker. Being that Danny Basavich will be a consultant, I am hoping they get this movie right!

Can't wait to learn more details! This is very exciting! :)

When Danny was on the road, he went up and down in weight but never reached within 100 lbs of what he is now IMHO.

my opinion on who can play the role. ribisi exudes this dark edgy personality, and he looks like he's been indoors for ages.

I don't know who that is but it isn't Danny :)
I've never seen that picture of him before.

He's a cute-looking lad of, my guess, 18 years in that pic. He's 27 or 28 now.

His best feature is his eyes, which actually sparkle when he's giving you his undivided attention, which he does to everyone he speaks with -- his best trait (IMO)!

Giovanni Ribisi wouldn't be very good but how about his good friend Ethan Suplee who has been in a lot of good movies, Cold Mountain, Chasing Amy, Remember the Titans, etc.

Here is a picture of him from the movie Without a Paddle:

He's the guy on the left. What do you think? If someone knows how to get in touch with casting they may want to recommend him.
