Kim Davenport's eye?

Just wondering if anyone can answer this for me.

Obviously, Kim is back in form so my question is...

What is the deal with his eye?

Did it heal?
Did he have surgery to get it fixed?
Or is it still blind or messed up and he just learned to play with 1 good eye?

Just wondering.

My apologies if this topic has already been covered.
Thanks

i had heard last year that he was going to have the surgery. Don't know if it ever happened. but i would think so since he is hitting them pretty good right now...............mike

Kim did have surgery on his eye...It is slow healing and not back to 100%, but he is working his way back to playing.....He did not play any pool for a couple of years, waiting for surgery and a settlement from the golf course...Looks like he is starting to get back some of his old form....But he says his eye is not the same......

Thanks for the info.

I was watching the IPT, and when i looked closely during his interview, it almost looked as if one eye had a dialated pupil, and the other had a pinhole pupil.

So i was wondering why that would be.

When talking to Kim in person and up close, you can see a different color in that eye. It just looks different...The color of the pupil is different....Hard to explain but you can tell it is not the same.......

The Kimmer

Basically, Kim is playing with one eye. The person who said he has 20-40 vision in the other eye is incorrect.

There have been several very good one eyed players in the past (and present), including "One Eyed" Tony Howard from Detroit, a top speed hustler in the 70's and 80's before dying in a car accident. Andy Scott out of Phoenix, was one of the better players in the Western U.S. during the 90's. He was active up until a few years ago.

"Patch Eye" from Louisville has been playing good pool for over four decades.
He is a black man who uses a Muslim name now. So, it is not unprecedented for a player to have only one good eye.

Kim has had a 'Hall Of Fame' type career and deserves to be considered for this honor. The fact that he has come back from this career ending injury is amazing in itself. He has shown true courage since his injury, never once bemoaning his fate or feeling sorry for himself. He has chosen instead to count his blessings and go on with his life.

Niels Feijen also has one "bad" (in his case lazy) eye, hence his cue-positioning. He's had this condition from birth, so he's always been used to it. Must be much harder to adjust after so many years of normal eyesight.
What happened to Kim's eye? Was it a ball or a club?

Jay, "Patch Eye" (Henry Busheer) lives in and is originally from Philadelphia, although he generally shows up for the DCC in Louisville.

Golf course? So what's the story of the injury to start with?

Kim was on the Tee, getting ready to tee off. Nearby one of those giant lawn mowers was cutting the grass. One of the blades threw a rock that hit Kim directly in the eye.

Right, Jafeer Busheer is the name he goes by now. He has been hustling pool forever. I remember him coming to Dayton in the 60's and playing Pete Glenn. Someone told me then he was out of Louisville.

He must be in his 60's now.

Ow...! :( That had to suck.

Yeah, i know Patch. Known him as long as i've been playing pool.
I see him about once a week in town.

And that's yet another reason i was asking, cause i know they say he used to play great pool BEFORE his accident, and to see that this guy recalibrated himself and learned to play with 1 eye is just amazing to me, so i got to wondering about Kim cause he seemed to be in the same predicament.

I shut one eye, and go to pick up a glass of soda, and knock it over, i can't possibly imagine having to relearn how to play pool.

The ace of our team has 1 bad eye.....I believe he's nearly blind in it, or close to it.

Yet he's an awesome pool player. I believe he ended up the #9 ranked player in points, in our BCA pool league.

He plays even better in just "bar" play. There have been nights where I was on, yet got whipped by this guy.

So, a player can still be very good, even with a bad eye.

This is some great, even inspiring information. I also have a lazy eye, and thought it would hold me back, not from being a top pro like Feijen, but just from being good at pool on my own level, so to speak.

It's great to see people with bad eyesight and handicaps excel. I used to shoot with a guy on our league team who is a SL5 APA, and shoots and smokes with one hand, since he only has one arm! Hence the name "Lefty". Lots of people may know him in my area.

Glad I could inspire you Gerry. You should watch some of Niels' tapes, his overall demeanor is also very inspiring, talk about giving 100% on each shot. I certainly hope Kim (and you) will keep on doing well and wish him all the best.

gr. Dave

Yeah, Kim's been through a lot! It's been a tough time for him, but glad to see he is back and doing well.

It didn't effect his golf game, eventhough he was hurt playing. Bob, Earl, Barry Rose and Kim played golf together in Vegas awhile back. Kim kicked ass.
