Kim Steel 2 pooltable

Has anyone seen or better yet played on the latest version of the Sam Kim Steel?
Please post what you personally think of their quality as a player and/or room owner.
Thanks.

Played on them- with very hard and tight pockets. Was new cloth so i loved it for sure. Don t know how hard they are to play, once the cloth is *old*.

I enjoyed to play on it-and also enjoyed the way the rails had been reacting.

I have a 10-year old KS & it plays great. When it was new, it had an eery quietness to it...banks would rebound without that familiar thump of a GC. I'd love to see the newest revision...but I can't imagine there are very many vendors in the US. When I bought mine in 2001, my friend in Chicago was the only importer in the US.

I have a 20 year old Kim Steel table and it is awesome. I did not know a new version was out. I suspect it is a European only model as the guy I bought mine from stopped selling KS tables years ago.

I've played on the Pirineos in a private home and Regenta @ Shakespheres in Denver. Both were Carom tables (Shakespheres had 4 or 5). All played excellent. Raymond Ceulemans was at Shakespheres for a 4 day clinic and he didn't stop commenting on how well the tables played.

I'm just speculating but I think the steel frame is where most of the change is. They now call it a "solid steel frame". This might mean welded?? I saw another Sam table not long ago and the frame was bolted and looked crude. Just an opinion. Never saw other frames. Seems the change came in 2010.

As a side note, being from Belgium I'd be looking at Verhoeven as another choice.

Just remembered there's 2 more Sam tables I played on in George Ashby's place. They played great too. And by the way Shakespheres pool tables (about 25 of them) + 1 Snooker table were also Sam tables. Very nice place.

Our local pool hall has two Kim Steels. I hate playing on them. IMHO they don't even come close to playing on a Diamond or Brunswick.

Never seen it discussed here how a steel table differs from a conventional one.

High end snooker tables have steel block cushions.
In the snooker section contributors have provided some enlightenment on the history of steel block cushions.

"Walter Buttery became a partner [of Burroughes & Watts] in the 1870's taking charge of the London offices and showroom. Of a very inventive turn of mind he is credited with the invention of the "steel-block" cushion, which was registered as a patent in 1888."

Verhoeven only makes caromtables in Belgium, only Gabriëls makes pooltables.
I've also been looking for a second hand Gabriëls signature pro, wich I could get for the same price as the Sam but I like the looks of the Sam more.
As for construction, I think the new Ksteel or the Gabriëls are built comparable.

I have my GC III at home for almost 2 years now and compared with the new Sam K steel is a big difference.

I'm not sure how much they changed the original concept except for the pockets

I've bought the Ksteel 2 and replaced it with my GCIII.
Table is as good as new, from 2010, and at this price a pretty good deal.

The price I pay (2000 euro - 2,632.19 USD) would be all costs included.
- break down and take back the Goldcrown (wich will need new rubbers)
- setting up the Sam including new Simonis 860 tournament blue cloth
- including a 9ft pro table light

Table will be installed next wednesday

Looks like a fine table- probably far better quality than we homeowners need- we'd love to see pictures of it and your room, when it is in.
