Klein--Hoille double plated Hoppe style conversion

Steve Klein recently finished converting this late 1800's early 1900's Hoille for me. It is a double plated cue. Joint, Hoppe ring and inlays are all ivory. The butt is Macassar and it weighs in at 19.6oz. The wrap is a faux lizard. I asked Steve to use a modified Euro taper on the shaft.

The original cue had the shaft cut off. This conversion was inspired by examples of J.K. Marshals plated BBC cues that I have seen on this site. I figure this is pretty much a rare example. The pics dont do it justice.

I do have a second blank that I may have a sister cue made with. The shaft is cut off on this one as well, so I am not destroying a historical example.

Thanks John.
Its def fun working with Steve. The restoration work he did on the points and veneers is great. Good luck on the Titlist. I am betting its going to be a fine piece.

LOL! Don't sweat it, we've all done it before. Very nice cue by the way.

Have you shot with it at all?

Yes I have run some racks with it.

The cue has a very distinctive but pleasant sound.
The taper puts the shaft on the stiff side which I like. At 13mm it could never be described as a wimpy shaft. It hits with what I would describe as medium hard. However it has a Talisman tip on it and I have noticed that they make for a hard hit in a cue. I am going to change tip out to a Karomi or a Kamui and see what happens. The cue is very responsive with a lot of feedback. You know immediately if you stroke wrong.

I am planning on having a second shaft made for it at 12.75mm.

Over all I am hugely pleased with the cue.

I saw the pictures of your reconditioned Hiolle cue. It's beautiful.
I also have a Hiolle, just not as nice or probably as old as yours, but wanted to inform you of the correct spelling of the name.
Knowing the correct spelling might assist you in searches about it. It did me as when spelling it as you do I could find little.
Have sent pictures of mine to the following cue collector who has a bunch of Hiolles and might like to see pictures of yours.
His site with pictures is interesting.

Thank you.
Been to that site a long time ago. Forgot all about it. :)

Looks like the links broke. Have to fix that.

---I have just shipped a sister cue to that one to Steve. I am hoping it will be usable. If not I think I will save the butt section and have a new forearm make with matching veneers and points. I am hoping to save the entire cue though.

Another great conversion Sev. Steve sure does great work. The only thing better than the beauty of his cues, is the hit. I doubt that anyone would believe me if I told them just how good my Kleins play. You have to play with one to understand what I am talking about. The hit is so crisp, the balls snap into the pockets, and the balance is perfect.

Great conversion on this old cue. That's funny because I've a similar cue with one MOP splice in the butt. Now I'm thinking of a conversion, too.
Thanks for this great pics and imagine what to do with my old cue. *smile*

---I got the inspiration from JK Marshals cues. Look up the thread on this site for more ideas as his have the pearl plates. When I recieved the cue it had the shaft cut off so there was no chance to restore to original.
---Steve is currently cutting a second shaft for me.
