Know Who Made The Cue - Who Is He?

Hi All,

I find myself buying a few cues made by unknown makers from time to time, but this cue is unique in the fact that it is clearly signed, very well made, has a solid hit, and I can find virtually nothing about the cuemaker. The cuemaker's name is Mike Lancaster. I heard a couple of stories when I was buying the cue, but can't seem to find anyone that really knows. A few people in the New York/New Jersey area seem to have heard of the cues, but that's as far as it gets. I was hoping to find out something about him in the new Blue Book, but no dice there either. Can anybody clue me in? Thanks!

Steve

Traveled a lot in the 80's and early 90's. I saw several LANCASTER cues around the CAROLINA'S in the 90's. Build quality was impressive. Lotta bang for the buck.

Michael is no longer making cues. I met him in 1996, visited his shop and bs'ed with him a while. He is/was an auto body repairman by trade. Don't recall when he made his first cue or exactly when he stopped making them, but it was in the late 90s (if memory srerves me well). At that time his home/shop was just inside the Virginia state line, right off of I-81. I'm not sure what he is doing now. I haven't had opportunity to speak with him in several years. His reasons for leaving the cue business are personal to him so I won't go into that.

Mike Lancaster 95

I have a nice 4 point, 2 veneer cue with Ivory inlays in the points and butt, signed M. Lancaster 95. The shafts must be from some older stock for they are slighlty darker and dense and weigh more than most shafts on the newer cues I own. The cue will soon be for sale as it has a stainless steel joint and I typically use a flat face phenolic joint. I will post pictures within the next few days. As Hunter has stated these cues are well made and play good from a relatively unknown maker.

It's a pity I don't have a Lancaster, if I had I'd be able to play that "know but won't tell" thing :)
still mad about that Zylr :D  :D
