Known Problem With Poison Jump Breakers

Last night a team mate broke hard with his Poison VX and the joint area of the shaft blew apart.

In looking at the setup, it seemed to me the pin was really short compared with what I'm used to seeing on breakers - actually, all cues.

This pin, I'm estimating, might be only 3/4" long. In fact, I was wondering at first if the pin somehow got knocked in during this failure.

I'm no engineer but is seems like a pin so short would be inadequate given all of the expected stress with it being a breaker.

So I made a call this morning to someone I know who handles many Poison products and was told this is a known flaw and, yes, there have been quite a number of these same failures.

They told me that the problem is indeed to do with the undersized pin. btw, it's called a mini-radial.

I wonder if anyone else here has had any similar issue.

My buddy posted on here a lil while back and his did the same thing. Had his Poison break cue blow apart at the joint. Had it 3 months.
 
Thank you for posting this because I was just about to purchase one today after couple weeks of research on it, what is a good alternative besides the new Players HXT jump/break?

Thanks for the suggestions, are any of those around the $199 price mark like the Poison is? I know the Stinger and Cuetec are cheap, but definitely not the PB. And I'm guessing the customs are more expensive as well?
 
the person with whom I spoke earlier today told me that the Players cues are made by the same folks in the same factory where the poisons are made but the players models have a much better pin. And they're cheaper.

The suggestion was for my friend to get the poison warranty replacement, sell it, and then get the Players.

+1 for a shattered Poison shaft, more like a split

At $200 the Players is your best bet. If you want a custom, you can usually land an Alex Brick for just over $250.

You can pick up a Schmelke or Summit jump/break around $200.
Alex Brick jump/breaks can be found a little over $200.

I personally prefer customs over production, base on my experience with production cue quality.
