Kojack ??????????

I think the "Kojak" you're referring to lived in Hartsville, SC. I wouldn't call him a gambler, though. What he was was an out and out big time drug dealer and a pool sucker. If you played pool with him or a player in his questionable stable you could win at least 40 units of whatever you were betting.
He used to land four engine planes in cornfields at 3am. Of course it was only a matter of time until the authorities got him. He got wind of the fact that the police were on to him and he took flight. He did love pool and after he was featured on AMW he was arrested at a pool tournament.

Thanks Grady, thats the person. Have heard that there were many stories about this man and his losing dollars on the table. Do you know of any?

He didn't always tap out.

IIRC he had a couple of colts in the barn that ran real good....called one CJ and the other JOHNY.

KOJACK was a serious man

You won't believe this one. I am sitting at a table, here in Raleigh, in either 89 or 90' talking to Kojack. Yes, he was from Hartsville, SC. He had Johnny with him at the time. He was woofing at Keith M. to play some on the bartable. As we were talking, America's Most Wanted comes on, and there he was. WTF?! He just gets up and walks out. Trippin'! I later went down to his little joint in SC and he wasn't there. I think they had picked him up. "Serious man", someone earlier had mentioned? You better believe it. I won't go into it, but we chatted for quite a while. Unbelievable. Access to ANY amount of money. Into quite a few things, I gathered. I was nervous just being around him, and I don't rattle easily. This was when Johnny was truely fearless. Keith wanted no part of him. By the way... I've told this story numerous times, and have gotten all kinds of stories about Kojack. Dealer, hitman, connected, etc. Bottom line... He was serious.

I do not have any first hand knowledge of this, but it was told to me by a fairly reliable source. They said Kojack would walk into a bar or poolhall with a briefcase of 100k or more and would play anyone that would step to the table. If he lost, which he usually did, he would shake the players hand and that would be the end of it. He never caused problems for anyone beating him out of his money even though he easily could have. I was told by the same source, when he started appearing on America's Most Wanted, he paid a plastic surgeon 500k to redo his face so he couldn't get recognized. The surgeon agreed, put him to sleep and called the authorities. Once again I cant prove or guarantee this story, but it came from a guy from Charleston that used to play him quite a bit.
