Just mounted it and all I can say is wow!
Most quiet and smoothest router I've tried.
Will put it to the test all afternoon today.
I'll post a pic tonite.
happy dustmaking

I had to make a Derlin ring to make it fit the Taper Shaper router holder.

For all of you digging this router, have a look at www.cnc-step.com
and you could admire movies of the unit.Think the one used
on the vid's is in the 1200w range.

When milling in Alu the machines on the link is claiming
5mm/round. In practical terms 1-2mm is recommended
(just a side note).

Happy milling.

Maybe we should leave pool cues
and make those "pimp my ride wheels" for the RC freaks ;-)
I prefer my HSD however, but thats related to other tasks
than cues and Alu.

Keep that dus comming. New machine Joey?

What do the Kress routers cost and where is the best place to get them? Do they have a 1/8" collet?

I got one from UK.
$375.
This one has 1/4 and 8MM.
I'm pretty sure it can take 1/8.

How many watts and R's will that one kick?
Is it the multi speed one?

<~~~looks different than the ones I've been using.......

It is multi speed.
1050W 30K idle, 28K at rated load.
This would be great as a threader too I think.

I've been using a Kress since '95 and they are great. I've had my old ones rebuilt so I now have one mounted on my CNC, one set up for threading & slitting and one set up for turning on my lathe. The latest (the new, red body style) was purchased around Xmas of '07 for under $300, including an 1/8" and a 1/4" collet. Most places sell them with 1/4" & 6mm collets with additional collets going for around $50 each or a set of 2 with a Kress mounting bracket for $100. However, some places are more accomodating than others & will sell you what you need in the kit. Not sure of the wattage but they called this a 1 hp model. I'd have to dig into last yrs receipts to see where I got it but it was somewhere on the East coast. I found it with Google.

1 hp is going to be somewhere around 750W.
Very close. That might account for the $80 difference in price from the 1050 watt spindle.

FWIW, I have never seen the need for more power in any cuemaking task yet. On my lathe, I regularly rough in my stock taking 1/8" on a side at .072"/rev feed. This spindle buzzes right through it.

Who sells them?

I've done searches, but can't seem to find a retailer who sells Kress routers. Anybody got a link?
