This is one tournament I look forward to each year. Appreciate InsidePOOL for offering the free live stream...
The competition and international pros at this tournament make it almost as exciting as the Mosconi Cup, IMO. Of course, the Mosconi Cup has the production and promotion machine Matchroom Sports behind it to make the event truly unique.
But this is the Internet Age. The web levels the playing field in terms of marketing and reaching a greater audience. There's no reason that the World Tournament couldn't be as popular as the Mosconi Cup. Heck, most of the Mosconi alums are in this tournament too!
Where's the website with frequent tournament updates? Yes, Facebook and Twitter are popular, but not everybody uses it. Most folks still look for a website.
For those who are into social networks, where's the official tournament Twitter feed? Where was the plan to promote this on Twitter? Could've sent out a press release about the official social media channels and an official hashtag such as #WorldStraightPool to promote this event.
Would've been great to read live tournament updates tweeted by folks (and reporters - where are they?) who are at the event...
Google "World Straight Pool 2013" and the results are...not encouraging. WorldStraightPool.com doesn't even show up on top of the list.
I'm happy to see this tournament materialize each year, but there's so much more the organizers/producers can do to promote this event. I know it's not easy putting this together, but just saying that more thought could've been given to leverage the web and social networks, which is the most cost effective way to promote an event these days...
If you are a savvy social network user, let's start using #WorldStraightPool on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. It's the least one can do to promote this sport we all love.
