I'd love to hear some old stories about Larry. I'm sure Grady has a vault full. I have an old dvd from a ring game in Denver CO., where Larry is talking about matching up with Larry Hubbart. He goes on to say they played 4 games of straight pool that he ran over a hundred on Hubbart, and never won one, and Hubbart, being the World 9 ball champion at the same time, never won a set against Larry playing 9 ball. Cool story.

I have only heard bits about Larry. What have heard has deffinatly got me interested.

Somewhere down south there was a higher level womens tourney, Larry dressed up as a woman and entered , he won. They didn't know until after. LOL

Larry played Richard Riggie who was the MD.STATE Champion for 20 years or more and a great straight pool player who was a 100 ball runner and beat Willie Mosconi in many exhibitions was losing 860 to180 in a 1000 point match wound up running over 100 ball runs 6 times and won the match. True heart and knew how to win.Won World Straight Pool Championship I believe in late 70's.A great money player also a great guy will be missed by everyone that knew him.

I knew Ricky. He was a great player for sure, but I think Cigar Tom and Geese held the Maryland State Championship multiple times. I can't think of anyone who held it for 20 years, but I may be wrong.

As a road player in the early 1970s in Charlotte, North Carolina, Lisciotti was playing nine-ball with an unknown entity for $15,000 for six-ahead.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a black, shiny object pointing directly at his head as he was getting ready to shoot the nine-ball in the pocket.

He missed the shot, as the bullet flew over his head.:duck:

It happened five more times, each time Lisciotti was getting ready to shoot a game-winning shot. :help:

After missing six consecutive nine-ball shots in a row, Lisciotti had had enough and said, "If he's going to kill me, let him!" He fired the last nine-ball in the pocket with authority, but thankfully only heard a clicking sound as the gunman ran out of bullets.

:shocked2::shocked2::shocked2:

I have heard how he would appear to be taking a close look and move a ball with his nose.
I have heard that after getting a money game he would take the cue ball and spray it with silicone.
steven

they were laughing and joking as they told these stories.

great player

In the early 90's at nine ball billiards in Stamford,CT. some hot shot kids were there and thought they could get over on Larry after a long 1st day of the open tournament and some drinking. So these kids trying to get a bet on anything, tossing coins closest to the wall and so on and Larry says i'll bet you $500.00 on a flip of a coin and I'll let you flip it but I'll call it. the youngsters huddle up and ok the bet. Now everyone is around in the place is around to watch the flip for $500.00,as the coin is in the air Larry calls heads on the floor and it is heads on the floor, Larry walks away with their money leaving them scratching their heads wondering how they just lost their money to a pool player that looked drunk and ready to lose his money....but Larry was always a step ahead. he did offered to but them a drink on him (or on them i should say). Great guy to be around with the road stories and watching him play against some of the greats.either way you always got your money's worth with Larry there!I'll always miss the fun he brought to a room. R.I.P Champ,we all miss you

Larry Lisciotti was one of my boyfriend's best, best, best friends. In fact, when I met my boyfriend for the first time, he was with Larry. Larry is definitely a part of my pool journey. I've got a couple funny Larry tales, but my boyfriend has MANY.

Later today or the weekend, I'll post a few more Larry Lisciotti adventures.

For now, I'll share a picture. He was the original "Prince of Pool," as he was fondly called. :)

I have a couple stories related to me by friends of Larry.

On one occasion he was in his pool room amid a long gambling session that eventually lasted all night. His wife Susan came into the pool room and started screaming and hollering, chasing railbirds out and in her rage telling Larry that his game was over and he was coming home that instant, or he wasn't to come home at all... When the dust settled and she stormed out, Larry said "...she must think she married a quitter" "Rack em up!"

The other classic quote I heard was when Larry was hospitalized near the end. Stoically, he said "The only downside to this is that my bookie is making me post my bets."

I only saw larry in action once at a big joss tournament at the country club in Chemsford about 8-10 years ago. He was playing Evgene Stalev sp? full rack bank pool. I think the bet was 2000k a rack. There was a huge crowd around the table. Stalev was fresh of the boat from Russia and idon't think he spoke a word of English.

Larry was playing to the crowd coming up with every derogitory Russian insult he could think up. He kept calling Stalev BORIS. It was mean but funny as hell at the same time

I think "Boris' got the cheese. I sort of remember Larry having to send out for more cash.

I think McCready later player Stalev too but I did'nt see that match up..

I got to play Larry at a Joss event in Quincy..it went 7-7 going to 9 he missed on an 8 ball and left me safe with the 8 -9 on the table shit luck...I missed an impossible kick. He got out then ran out to win. That was really my high water mark in terms of play I had been out of work for like 6 months and was playing every day at that point. I ran 4 or 5 racks not in a row in that match.

It reallly pumped my game up for a long time to take a former champ and big time gambler to the hilt like that...Like I said that was the high water mark...Right now I'm lucky if I hit balls once a month

hey kiss, I was there for that match up in CCUSA also. Talk about funny, Larry had me rolling with his coments. they both played great bank pool and I think the kid did ended up a game or 2 ahead.Great times when Larry, Keith, Mike X. and the others got together. talk about action in the house!:thumbup:

I was there too. It was kind of fun!

I was told, Larry, borrowed someone's money, car. and their cue and went down south for some action. He came back without any of them.

Great talent!
