Laser speed detector

No idea what Sardo may use, but if you are on a budget and have kids how about one of these Hot Wheels units? That way the kids can have fun with it once you get done clocking you devastating break speed. Or just return it when you are done.

At one of the BCA Trade Shows, there was a laser-beam speed trap. It had only one laser that crossed the table twice about 10 inches apart, using mirrors and such to form the path. It had a way to correct for the angle of the cue ball through the beams, as I recall. (If you break at an angle, such as from the side rail, your reading will be low because you are travelling along a diagonal.)
I think the guy who made it was trying to sell them, but they were pretty expensive.
There may have been a small issue with airborne cue balls. This could affect the time between beam-breaks.
Yeah the Hotwheels one doesn't work worth a crap. It's made for hotwheels only.
I bought this thing http://www.opticsplanet.net/speedcheck-radar.html and it works sometimes but anytime I broke above 23mph it would read some crazy number like 48mph or 91mph. And no it wasn't in kilometers.
I guess I'll try the bushnell since it seems to be the only thing that isn't super expensive. I would like something that reads to the tenth though.

Yeah I'm going to try the sound experiment tonight. Hopefully it will work good. I tried the video but I can only get 30fps so it's hard to be exact. The difference between three and four frames from the side rail is
2.95795/.10000- 2.95795/.13333 = 29.58mph - 22.19mph = 7.39 mph
so it's hard to be exact, I can only be accurate to +/-2mph
I'm also going to try to download some video editing software to see if I can get a higher framerate. The camera has a high speed option but when you play it back it still only plays at 30fps.
Are those hotwheels guitars? I don't think it will work with those. The hotwheels gun takes the actual speed and multiplies it by 16 since the cars are 16th scale. It also won't read more than a foot or so. It's a very weak gun.

While it really isn't, although it weighs nothing, I wouldn't expect it to tak much of a pounding...but it's one of the most fun things I've ever pissed away a twenty on.
It will give speeds either in 1:1 scale or 1:64 scale. I haven't tried it yet on fast objects. I can tell you that in scale speed the ceiling fan in my office does mach 0.43! ((331MPH/64)=5.XX actual MPH)
I have ZERO, and El Dubb means ZERO, doubt that I will go supersonic when I catch my break speed! (1:64 scale to be sure...(771MPH/64)=12.05 actual MPH.)
