Just had lasik yesterday ....wow !! I don't think it will help my game alot
that takes practice and time at the table .I do know this ,I can actually
see the table from one end to the other as good as I could when I was
16 or so.If you are thinking about it do it .

Congrats. I am really wanting to get that done. I have astigmatism in one eye and not sure how much more it will cost. Did you have anything like that and if so what was the difference in price? They are really starting to do some amazing things.

What was the difference in cost with and without astigmatism? When I break down and do it I will probably go to Evansville. I think Nick had his done in Louisville.

I had glasses or contacts for 18 years and had astigmatism. TLC (which is the same company that did Tiger Woods eyes) did my operation in Dallas. It was $2590 total for both eyes & I had custom wavefront lasik. It is guaranteed for life as long as you go in every year and get your eyes checked - which so far 2 years down the road they have not charged me a cent for. I had neg 12.75 vision in both eyes - that is almost legally blind. Had the surgery done, went back to the hotel, took a 4 hour nap, woke up and was reading the small print on the bottom of the ESPN show that was on - NO CORRECTION NEEDED! Honestly has changed my life. How ever you get the money - loan or whatever (yes, they will finance it) - DO IT!!!

I am planning to have lasik after the first of the year. Glad to hear things went well for you. It will be nice to not have to deal with contacts anymore at tournaments or while gambling.

I've been thinking about this for the past 2 years. I'm using hard contacts right now (orthokeratology) and I'm sick of them. Congrats on your new vision.

Yep helped me too! 20/15 vision!

same here - just in case someone hasn't had a lot of eye checks as I have - 20/15 means that you can see something from 20 feet that the normal person with 20/20 vision can only see from 15 feet. I started at somewhere around 20/400 - I think.

I think if i just quit drinking, it will help me determine better what side of the ball to hit...+)

I had lasik about 4 years ago.

I'm back to wearing glasses now, especially when playing billiards. I can function without glasses, but the correction needed is less than optimal to get a correction.

I see ghosts and lost my night vision. Granted, my vision is MUCH better than prior to surgery (I was in 200s on both eyes, with a lot of astigmatism) but it doesn't always end up with 20/20 vision.

good point - it is still surgery and there are risks - I personally would pay 5 times what I did for it and do it again

That's still pretty high but I bet it was worth every penny. Kim makes me wear small frame glasses and that makes shooting pretty tough at times. I dont want to try contacts because as a machinist I wear larger frame glasses to work and really just dont like the thought of messing with them all the time.

I couldn't say off hand what my vision is right now but without my glasses I cant read my monitor from 3 feet away and anything beyond that is just a blur.

I was nearsighted for 50 years. -375/-400. Now I'm 20/25. I can do everything without glasses, even read, which the Doc said I wouldn't be able to do. They gave me a little monocular vision but it works for me. Mine cost $2700 back in 2001. I went to a famous eye surgeon but now the results are as good anywhere. I do understand that it's important that the Opthamologist is not using old equipment. The latest and greatest costs them mega-bucks to lease, and that's why some are sooooooo expensive...Tom

I had it done in 1999 at age 50. Cost me $950 for both eyes... done in Vancouver, BC where they had a clinic that did thousands!! This was before the procedure was approved in WA. The Canadians had all the experience in lasik. Even if the procedure had been available in the states, I still would have had it done up north.

Was 20/400 (R) and 20/200 (L) with a bad astigmatism... and I now see 20/20.... but that is for distances starting at 20' away.

Since I am almost 60 y/o, I need some near vision correction to see the crisply for the length of a 9-foot pool table... although that is not an absolute requirement to play well. As such, I had some pool shooting glasses made locally (like the online Canadian optomotrist makes). I wear them occasionally... they are especially effective for me on short/thin cuts where I need to see the edge of the OB clearly.

I am an advocate of lasik.
