I guess it is going to be a dogfight over this Ginacue! The bidders really ran it up, as I am guessing they don't know how to use Esnipe.

Got mine set to go off at $2750. Anyone think I will get this cue?

Blue book says it is one of a kind.... Titlist conversion... in present condition, sitting at about $2k in value... Anyone agree with that?

Why is there no buzz about this auction? I think this is a rare opportunity to own a cue that is just one step below a Balabushka!

C'mon! Tell us what you think!

The ss joint look slightly crooked ,don't you think so?

I see what you mean... but I think the shadows on the screw are causing that to look that way... They are claiming it is straight...

If you got this cue... would you refinish it or keep it in original condition?

And... it does say ebony and ivory for the butt, but I can clearly see the linen in the plastic of the butt..... Don't think that is ebony!

Ok... I think I better bump my Esnipe amount up a bit.... Lots of views of that cue....

Give us the link so we can help you run the bid up. :D

Does it appear as if Ginacues are losing their appeal? There have been some for sale here and I don't think they have been selling very fast if at all.

Oh, crap! Sorry! Here is the link!

Not sure if they are losing appeal... but they are priced so high now that most people don't have the money (or desire) to jump into them. The reality is that most people just do not have thousands of dollars lying around, waiting for a cue purchase... Some of the older folks (that have money) are divorcees that have expensive hobbies... The younger pool players might be able to afford one custom, but that is it... So the bottom line is that cues in general are just getting too high.. coupled with a cost vs. practicality issue that many people (and wives) have a problem getting over.

To be honest, I am not really going after this cue... I just wondered why nobody was talking about it. If I had the money, I would go for it. I considered selling my Richard Black to buy the Gina. That says a lot, if I was considering that.

Just wonder if the winner will have it refinished. I think I would. I would also shoot with it if I could pry my Black Boar out of my hand for a game or two.

I saw the Gina cue earlier and passed on it while I was bidding on a 6-point Black Boar.
The bidding ended on the Black Boar without reaching the reserve.

About the Gina:
Looks like it is linen in the butt, the joint on the shafts and in the ring work on the cue below the joint.
The ferrules appear to be something other than ivory but that is not a big issue.
I would have Ernie refinish it to brand new condition and provide a letter upon completion to help the cue hold it's value.
Then I would play it at home (Oh - I do not have a table at home - Yet!).

Be careful. The auction is being run by one of those companies that auctions peoples stuff for them. My experience on ebay with sellers who know very little about pool has not been good. One time I bought a 2500$ ginacue from a pawnshop seller on ebay (this was about 4 years ago) and the cue arrived with two warped shafts and a warped butt. The seller said it was straight but then said to me later.."well I thought it was damn straight for a 40 year old cue." . So be careful, alot of times non pool guys selling pool stuff are complete idiots when it comes to accurate, useful descriptions.

yuck

Sorry, but that thing is ugly. I have seen much better looking Gina's. You could do so much better for the amount of $$ you are willing to spend. DAMN THING looks like an old K-mart special (although it appears to be more expensive than anything they sell in the store, probably combined) so it has to have some appeal. SO, what is it? For that much money does it really play that much better than a southwest, or a black boar, or richard black, or lambros?

Bill,

I actually had this same design cue - it was my player in the 1970's.

I thought $2500 - $2700 would take it. It's definitely a nice older Gina to own, but when really fancy ones can get picked up for $3,300 - $4,000, I don't think it would be wise to really go much above $2500.

Ha, I bet you don't like Balabushka's much either, because that's just about what it looks like.

Times have changed. Just like a model T doesn't look real spiffy next to a Ferrari, it's a sign of personal growth to develop an interest in and a respect for historic things, otherwise the Coliseum in Rome would have been plowed down so they could build a beautiful new Wal-Mart in its place.

I predict 20 years from now, people will be fighting for that Gina like they do today's Szamboti's, while the Lambros will still be for sale at Billiardswarehouse.com ;)

Do the older Palmer Model J's that command $2K hit great?
Do Balabushkas and old Gus' hit better than what is built today?
How about an ornate Schick? Does it hit the best?
Maybe even a plain Titlist conversion done by Searing?

It's not how it hits, it all boils down to who's name is on it, when it was built, and the condition.....

I'd be willing to bet that Barry's first cue doesn't hit near as great as the ones he builds today, but what type of price do you think it would bring?

Hi Roscoe,

Actually, those old Gina's have a TREMENDOUS hit, that's why they became so famous. In the late 1960's, early 1970's all of the western states pros had them.

I lost mine when my car was stolen but if I still had it, that's what I would be playing with.

I got mine (used) a few years after my playing buddy buddy got his in abut 1970. He was a good player named Billy Pence. I lost touch with Billy for 30 years and ran across him at the tourney in Riverside a few months ago. He was still playing with that old Gina and threw a near shut out at Billy Palmer with it in the tournament. The cue looked like new. He still has Ernie service it and so forth.

While that is probably a certainty (as you have owned one), I believe my point has a part in it as well, no?
