I was hitting them around the other night and started playing the 9 in the same pocket as the last ball pocketed. Having gambled in the past playing LP 8 Ball, it was kinda fun doing it with 9 Ball !!!

Just curious if anyone else has tried it??

Russ.......

ps - NO, this isn't an April Fools Joke!!! :D

I have never played Last Pocket 9 Ball, but I have played Back Pocket 9 Ball. Makes the end game turn into a last ball One Pocket match. Makes 9 Ball much more interesting to me.

It's been a while since I play back pocket 9ball but it's definitely a great game to gamble some when you're bored.

Well

it gives the lessor player a little more leverage than they would normally have.

Another one for a change is 'Fast Rack 8' (4 stripes, 4 solids, 8 in the middle racked as 9 ball is), and play rotational 8 ball with it, and play last pocket.
The game is fast, but increased complexity.

Both last pocket and back pocket sound like good games to me. I wonder
why they weren't played more?

back pocket is played often up here in the north east. It's a good way for a 9baller and a 1pocket player to match up.

How do you play back pocket ?
Not a term that is used around here

It has been a while since I've played, but I believe it goes like this...

Only the 2 pockets at the head of the table are used to pocket the 9 Ball. The breaking player determines his pocket before breaking the rack. 9 Ball must be pocketed in the shooting players pocket to win the game. If it is pocketed in any other pocket it is spotted and the game continues until a player pockets the 9 Ball in his pocket.

I have also seen "9 twice" and "9 twice in the same pocket". The first requires that after pocketing the 9 it is spotted and must be shot again. The second is the same, but must be shot into the pocket where the 9 was originally pocketed.

What if you drop the 9 in the side..is it a loss of turn..a foul /BIH?
or do spot it and continue your round...

What if you slop it or shoot in into your opponents pocket..game over or spot?

I might like this game enough to actually play a little 9 ball again...

I have played last pocket 9 ball and took it a little further. My self and a friend invented a game that we call one pocket nine ball. It is a very entertaining game and I hope to post the rules on this forum site someday.
